WoW vs Vista RTM
« on: November 19, 2006, 06:56:06 pm »
Re-post from me from the WoW forum:

I just wanted to throw this out there to anyone who is on the bleeding edge and trying to run WoW under the Vista RTM (build 6000) that was released to MSDN subscribers on Friday and will be available to business users at the end of November.

There appears to be a bug related to changing zones.  I have not yet checked on changing from world to instance (or the reverse) yet, but it definitely occurs when I'm moving through the world, always when a new zone name is appearing on my screen.  This has happened twice when I've started flight, once when I was on the boat, and once when I was riding my horse to Onyxia's Lair and moved into the Wyrmbog.

Error information:

This is on a Gateway CX2724 tablet PC, Centrino Duo 1.6GHz with 1gb of RAM and integrated Intel 945 chipset graphics (64mb dedicated video RAM, 256 total).  My system runs Aero Glass and has a 3.0 on the Windows Experience Index.  Aside from the crashing, WoW runs great, far superior to how it ran on my desktop with Vista RC2 (with a Geforce 6800 GT and 2gb of RAM, P4/HT @ 2.4GHz).

I've attempted to run WoW in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 2 as well as with Administrative Privilege, but this has no effect.  It appears to be a Direct3D bug if I'm understanding the stack trace correctly - either in D3D or your implementation of it.

Anyway, just thought I'd pass this along to anyone else who's using Vista already.  :)
I have a programming folder, and I have nothing of value there

Running with Code has a new home!

Our species really annoys me.

You using the PTRs? I read about a zone changing crash.

If not then thanks for the headsup.
One must ask oneself: "do I will trolling to become a universal law?" And then when one realizes "yes, I do will it to be such," one feels completely justified.

No, the PTRs are JUST crashing.  Nothing to do with zones.  ;)

Bleeding is the result of cutting. Hence, cutting edge.. bleeding edge.
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

That's odd. Myndy could you link me to your Blizzard post? I'd be interested in seeing an official response.
