Comcast internet service problems.
« on: November 24, 2006, 10:07:46 am »
Our connection goes out every single night, it is annoying.
The tech has come to our house a few times to fix it, nothing has worked.

We figure it is something on the mainline as does the tech.  He also mentioned the a house down the way has the same sort of problem.  This has only started happening since it started getting cold outside.

Have you guys ever had any issues with your lines getting cold and losing connection?

Well, if it hit's absolute zero.. but I don't think it'll get that cold in New Mexico.
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

Sounds to me that it could be a main line feeder problem. At night when it gets real cold out the feeder fitting could be getting sucked away from the line on the pole. It could also be that the main line is cracked or damaged. He should have put a call into OSP (Outside Plant) maintenance and have them trouble shoot from there. Sometimes that happenes in the area I work in. It could also be a hardware problem somewhere on the main line.
Thats the best reply I've had so far (from another forum).

They're supposed to come out today & look @ it all, I hope they fix this soon

Dude that checked the lines said that there is a switch on the main line that detects temperature changes and automatically compensates for that.  Switch on main line was off, he turned it on & said to call back monday if it isnt working still.

(I'm on FC6 ;)...not wireless, yet, though)

I live in Winnipeg, where the temperature occasionally hits -60 in Winter.  Most of our lines are underground :)

Well, that's not exactly true... Shaw yes, MTS no. MTS DSL connects to your NID box outside and runs to the hydro line in your back lane. :)
