I have a question about Magnets

I have been looking into this for a week or two, and I have yet to find anything. I figured the best area to post it would be here.

Well, here's my question:

This website: http://unitednuclear.com/magnets.htm sells magnets all rated at "grade N40 or higher." That is the grade of the Neodymium in the magnets. I was wondering if any one knows if the scale that they are graded on is Logarithmic or if it's linear.

That's not the question, but I've been there before. Thy are just talking about that gaus rifle, that is a linear ammount of attration versus the resistance from friction and the other magnet. I was asking about the n40, and if the scale beween n1 and n45 is linear or not.
