XP or Vista?
« on: December 10, 2006, 06:10:00 pm »
Okay, heres the deal. My brother's machine is virused and spywared to shit, it hosts our internet connection (ICS and Dialup), and I'm tired of spending hours daily (exageration, that's only what it seems like) trying to even get dialup speeds.

I'm going to reformat it, sooner or later. The question is, am I going to install Vista or XP for a low-maintnence, secure system? He has the "power" to run Vista decently, and it doesn't really matter because I'd have to buy either one (unless a friend with MSDN *cough* got me a copy).

So, which is better?
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

How do you plan to buy it if it's not out legally for the general public? :P

You'd still need a key, and I don't think someone with an MSDN account would share a key with you, seeing as how you're given only one key. :(

Why don't you give him XP with a good anti-virus scanner/spyware scanner?

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

This person has MSDN Ultimate, or is a Microsoft employee, or something like that. Anyhow, he gets 10 licenses to each flavor (so, 50?).

I'll trade you all of my programming books for Vista. :)

It's definitely neither. I know both types of people, and MSDN only gets 1 license for each flavor w/ 10 activations. The M$ employees are different, but it isn't 10 licenses. Lmao.

Nope, same as everyone else, except that there are (large) discounts at the company store.  Last time I checked, it wasn't available there yet, though.

It isn't. I'm hoping it'll be a huge discount like XP in the company store. I'll pick up quite a few copies! :P
