It appears that the stem is the L, as said in googles blog. But if you have to explain a graphic, then you obviously need a better one.

That's what I was thinking, isn't the L generally green? 

But I agree, it's not very obvious.

I noticed the stem prior to my noticing this thread. :\   It was kind of obvious to me for some reason.
