so I need to move some files....
« on: March 22, 2007, 01:05:13 am »
I have 420mb free on G: (my main drive that Vista is on)
I have 10gb free on C: (my XP)
I have 1.4gb on D: (restore)

I have like...40?gb on C: I want to move to G: & then wipe C: clean

Any good suggestions?

(I want to just delete my XP partition)

....maybe move stuff to iPod & random discs and then add G: to C: & then qipe them & install Vista upgrade (just got it in mail).

(to do this I install the 'trial' & then upgrade to the full using key they sent, YAY for full legit version finally)

Repartition the free space on C to G, reboot, move 10gb of files to G, repeat.  (Partition Magic will do this)

Might not be the most efficient way, but it saves burning discs.
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

420mb, yes really :(.

I MIGHT be able to format G: (vista), move my "I want to keep files" to it, then format C: & install Vista(trial, then upgrade to full home premium w/cdkey they gave me) on it.  Then I can move my files to C: (vista) from G: (blank) and format G: then add to C:*

*all using NOrton Partition Magic

Think that'd work?

(I created G: from C: originally)

Do you have a spare $40? Go to Wally-World and buy an 80Gig GogoDrive. It'll serve you well. ^_^
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

You know, Partition Magic is sometimes referred to as Partition Tragic. :)

I'd never recommend risking important data by resizing partitions that contain that data.

Signed for Sidoh, not to mention it'd take a God-Awful long time anyhow.

Also, do you have a DVD burner? 40/4.7 == 8.51, meaning you could fit your 40GB of stuff on 8.51 (okay, 9) DVD's. They only run like a dollar a piece at WallyWorld now.

An external hard drive is your best bet.

Since I cant install Vista over C: when it is full, would it be safe (files are backup already) to reformat C: from G:(reinstalled vista just a bit ago) & then install vista over C:?
