Maybe his IP changed and his connection or the update client wasn't functioning?

DynDNS's updating client has never worked for me, ever. I'm going to change to no-ip one of these days, or something...

And the reason for the router's page was probably that somebody else picked up my IP who has remote administration for his router enabled. Coincidence.
