How do we all fit?
« on: July 23, 2007, 12:22:12 am »
So according to revelation 21:16, heaven is a cube with 12,000 mile-big sides. That's 2.54358061 × 1023 square feet. The total number of people that have ever existed is estimated to be between 90 and 110 billion.

So assuming 110 billion people have existed and they all got into heaven, each of them has 2,312,346,009,600 cubic feet to himself. Let's assume that God and other Essential Services somehow takes up 2/3 of the space. That's still  1,541,564,006,400 cubic feet per person.

Clearly, that's too much room.

So I propose we figure out why God made so much room:
- Do aliens get into heaven?
- Do people from parallel universes get into heaven?
- Do our pets get into heaven?
- Do bugs (mosquitoes, cockroaches, etc.) get into heaven?
- Is heaven a big empty place?

What do you think is the best explanation? Can you come up with something better?

Can anyone calculate how many people will have lived by the time the sun explodes and wipes our race out of existence?

I think you'd have more luck calculating the number of humans that'll be born in the next ~100 years. That should be long enough for us to wipe ourselves out :)

I've read that the amount of people living today far outnumbers the total amount that have lived before us, at any other time.

That is true, at no period in history have there been more people alive.

However, the total number of people that have ever lived is higher than the current population, by a lot.

Make sense?

If the numbers that are listed at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_population are true, and the results are plotted, it would be closer to 14 billion. Anyway, seeing as human population growth is increasing almost exponentially, I don't see that being much of a problem

That's the source I used:
Quote
Estimates of the number of human beings who have ever lived on Earth constitute an extremely large range, with low estimates around 45 billion, and the highest estimates topping out around 125 billion. Many of the more robust estimates fall into the range of 90 to 110 billion humans.

110 billion is the number I used.

No need. If that's what will end our existence, and not the wars of the tribulation and the big Dragon vs Lamb fight, then you might as well not even care.
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

the big Dragon vs Lamb fight
I knew the Bible was retarded, but that just sounds like Scientology.  WTF?

It's from the book of Revelation, which was basically St. John losing his mind in symbolism, but the Lamb (Jesus) kills a 7-Headed, 10-Horned, 10-Crowned dragon (Satan). If I remember when I'm not lazy, I'll try finding it.

I officially declare you stupid. The bible makes more sense to me than literature from the 16th and 17th centuries, which you're fond of IIRC.

I don't think the bible makes "sense" unless you assume some pretty fundamental things and since I'm pretty sure rabbit doesn't share your beliefs in the slightest and I'm also pretty sure that you're aware of that, I don't see how that comes close to being a reasonable counter-argument. :-\

Hahaha. I love how you're comparing the bible to fiction!

Wrong.

What?  Who's ass did you pull that out of?  And just because you believe in a book with a bunch of contradictory tales of prejudism and discrimination doesn't mean it makes more sense than random stuff from the nth century.
