Sounds of the Underground '07
« on: July 28, 2007, 11:07:33 am »
Was yesterday. I left work at 11:30, had a Big Extra at McDonalds at 11:45, then hopped on the train to the university. I got there at about 12:15, stood in line till 1:00, then went in and stood in front of stage (on the edge, however -- I don't like being in the middle) until 10:00pm. That's 9 hours in the same spot with no sitting, food, drink, or bathroom breaks. But it was worth it to see Gwar up close again :)

These were the bands in the order they played:
2Cent
Goatwhore
The Number 12 Looks Like You
The Acacia Strain
The Devil Wears Prada
Darkest Hour
Amon Amarth
Job for a Cowboy
Shadows Fall
Every Time I Die
Chimiara
Gwar

The only bands that people seemed really excited about were Amon Amarth and Gwar.

On the way back, the train took a long time to show up. By the time it got there, a ton of people were waiting for it, so the train was packed full of metal fans. I felt pretty bad for the people on the bus who weren't involved, though, because metal fans can be.... scary? :). I think the best part was when a guy decided to crowdsurf, and surfed went from one end of the traincar we were in to the other (~the length of 2-3 buses) and back, a couple times. It was pretty funny to see somebody crowdsurfing a train!

So yeah.. it was a good time, but it was nice to get home, drink a lot of water, and have a shower. :)

Do they not have those where you live? Ever since it appeared here, it hasn't went away.

They changed it to the Big and Tasty, which is essentially the same thing only smaller. According to Wikipedia Canada's version is the same as the Big and Tasty only carrying the Big Xtra name.

Haha nice, the version we have now is the version we've always had, I think. I wouldn't want it to be any bigger, though, after I had it yesterday I couldn't eat anything else.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother seeing it this year. There are more boring bands than good bands. I recommend waiting till next year, hopefully Gwar will be headlining for the third year in a row, and that there are more good bands. Last year had, besides Gwar: Black Dahlia Murder, Cannibal Corpse, In Flames, and Behemoth. This year had Goat Whore and Amon Armoth. :(

yeah I wanted to see Amon Amarth+++ and Gwar +++. Goatwhore was the only one I was semi-interested in. There is always waiting in the back for them to play and pushing to the front for them

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

Well, Hammet was in Exodus~!~!~! OMG

Umm. Yeah, he might like Helstar, since they're good speed metal. I've gotten him to enjoy listening to Slayer, Exodus, Agent Steel and the likes. Quote from him to his sister (I communocate through Lauren) "Yeah, I'll go, any concert with Dan should be hilarious." Wtf?

EXODUS SETLIST: Pirhana, And Then There Were None, A Lesson in Violence, Deliver Us To Evil, Bonded By Blood, Strike of the Beast (yes, virtually all of Bonded By Blood), Seeds of Hate, 2 new songs (off of album yet to be released), Deathamphetamine, Blacklist, War is My Shepherd.

BEST SETLIST EVAR!!! By the way, Newby, if you still have the 227 number, check it, I left a... message.

Helstar was fucking great. They played some new stuff also, and it sounds great.

Warbringer was very good in the line of Violator and most Brazilian thrash. I got one of their CD's.

WTF? Only one song off of SHKM?? *SIX* off of Bonded By Blood?!! :( When I saw exodus they played like 2 songs off BBB, brain dead, and the rest were SHKM songs.

How was Duke's performance? How was the new stuff? Did it move away from the SHKM sound at all? I'd much perfer if it was more in the vein of Tempo...

I know, I was shocked when I saw the setlist. Totally made my life.

Like I said back when I saw them last, Duke pulls off a decent Baloff. His stage presence is a bit... odd, but he let me do vocals for alot of Strike of the Beast (which was their closer). He let some guy do vocals for literally half of Pirhana, just gave him the mic and let him go for it. Yeah, the new stuff is much more like Tempo. Short, heavy groove riffs with more fast, simplistic drums. Since when is Tom Hunting playing for them again?

Awesome! And Tom has been back since they started the recording of this album.

Feel free to split this part of the discussion into newby's forum, which I can claim as my own, thus making it the perfect place for discussion of all things metal.

It's not like I care. I have nothing more to discuss about the Sounds of the Underground, and this is somewhat related. I was just bugging :)
