Possible downtime
« on: August 07, 2007, 01:33:03 pm »
Just a warning, the ISP is coming by sometime this week to figure out why the phonelines are noisy. This noise might be related to some of the recent problems I've been having. I don't expect it to last for more than an hour.

Come on, it'll be short if it even happens! They may have already done the maintenance, who knows?

And it'll probably make it work better in the future. :P

Wait, downtime gets announced now? This is new policy. :P
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

No it isn't. When I have to take the server down for maintenance or whatever, I announce it. I've done so in the past, if you look.

EASY, sheesh.
It is good to be good, but it is better to be lucky.

I know. I was kidding, a sort of play on how there's been so much downtime lately that it does little good to bother announcing it.

Our phones have been fucked up as well. Sometimes people call and say that the phone was ringing but it never rings once here! Yes, we do have call waiting but nobody is on the phone. :(

We had a lot of line noise, apparently. I have to see if they ever actually came down.

So I called my mom to find out the deal. Apparently, MTS (my ISP) came down on Tuesday of last week and found the problem: the hot water tank was leaking, and caused a bunch of corrosion inside one of the walls. He removed that one jack that was shorting out (the room was unused anyways) and that solved the line noise problem.

That's likely the reason that the Internet connection was being intermittently broken last week, so hopefully it'll behave now for awhile.

Hey iago,

Wondering if you've been having problems lately with slow upload speeds. I think MTS fucked up (yes again) and I'm getting shitty ass upload speeds. It started around 12 AM this morning.

Not that I'm aware of. But then, 11kb/s would handle the forum traffic fine, so who knows?

So I had to call them back and ask if there was any new news on my connection... apparently they've found the problem and are "trying to get it fixed ASAP".

I really hate how my internet has so much downtime and it doesn't seem like anyone else is having that problem.

Ah, then that would suck pretty bad. 12 kilobytes for a page, so like 8 seconds. Heh, it's definitely not that bad.
