Title: Furious [x86] ? :P
Post by: Furious on November 12, 2005, 07:32:35 pm
I'd like to join, I don't know what to put...hrm...I don't program, I've tried but I guess I have ADD because I never get very far, I have a vague knowledge of VB, I used to game a lot on BroodWar, Diablo II, and now I am a full time student and have a part-time job.  I like to get into semi-serious discussions occasionally ( for those of you who didn't notice ), I love cars, everything about them, and I enjoy playing WoW.

My schedule...

Monday - Thursday: Work ( 6am - 12:30pm )  //  School ( 1:30pm - 9:30pm )
Friday: Work ( 6am - 12:30pm ) // School ( 1:30pm - 3:00pm )
Saturday - Sunday: Work ( 6am - 2:30pm )

I usually visit here a couple times a day when I can catch some time, anywho, anything anyone wants to know, feel free to ask.

This isn't a programming clan.  It's a pwngramming clan!  ^_^

Seriously though, it isn't a programming clan.

I know it isn't, I have read the "How to join" thread :P I was just giving you an insight of what I do and don't / cannot do, that being the reason I added that I used to game a lot.

Actually, I stole it from Screenor's FTP :P But I do try to get to know the members, but the majority of you idle, or don't even come onto battle.net, and the majority of the topics discussed in member's forums I don't find them...worthwhile? And actually, I don't go to the member forums much, I generally stay in the "General Forums"

-- Right now there are 4 clan members with tags loaded in Op x86

Most of us use the forum as our main clan discussion area.  I think idling on Battle.net is pointless (which is why I don't do it).

Unless it's against Jews.  They're the universal scapegoat, and are allowed to be picked on.

But seriously, I don't know you well enough to decide.  What that means is, stick around longer.

Also Furious, alot of us use Instant Messangers of variations (AIM, YIM, MSN, ICQ, mIRC, etc.). Get ahold of us there. Check profiles for information! If we don't answer there are good reasons.

I don't like the idea of IM'ing people I don't know, it's stupid, I suppose I will just stick around here for a little longer and just keep talking to Warrior, Newby, and WiReS ;/

How do I join [x86]?
-- Well, there's a two-step process on your behalf. I'll explain those steps briefly, since I assume you can figure out the rest. The two are linked together as well.

Get two of the three leaders to approve of you. Who are the leaders? Well, currently, they are iago[x86], Quik[x86], and MyndFyre[x86]. If you're wondering how to get their approval then ... (read below)Get to know the members, contribute to the forums/channel, become something the members want in the clan. If you're an inconsiderate prick all the time there's no way anybody likes you, and that narrows down your chances of getting into the clan. However, if you turn out to be somebody that is fun to be around, is extremely friendly, liked by all, your chances are better! Plus, why would any member vote yes on someone they don't know?

There's a three-step process on our behalf, but since that's not relevant to you I won't discuss it here.

It's ok, they are the important people ;)

I've been talking to some of the members on a more normal basis, mainly GameSnake, xex, WiReS, Ergot, and a little with Krazed / Newby last night.

Ok, I was just curious about that.

At this moment, there aren't 2 leaders willing to give you approval.

But who knows what the future holds?  Stick around for awhile, get involved with stuff here, and you might have a chance one day.  Or you might not, and it'll be a big waste of time.  Either way, it'll be fun!

No, I just don't like telling people "You're screwed, go away".  Not that he is!

Although I'm more of an optimist than a pessimst, I am usually between them.  :)

I actually wasn't intending on asking you anyways, since it requires a 2/3, I believe I have a good chance of getting Sidoh's approval, but iago I'm not too positive about but, I see you as a 0% chance.  Maybe since it's been so long since anyones replied to this ( with the exception of today ) I'd forgotten I have to get approval personally?

And by personally, I meant privately, which is something I had forgotten I have to do.  It's usually like...

Post => Get Approved / Denied => Join or Don't.

not...

Get Approval => Post => Wait 2 months for voting => Join or Don't.

But see, our system is set up to avoid that (which you would know if you'd read and understood the rules).  We don't want people to have to wait around.  Votes are two weeks and always start immediately following the receipt of two leaders' approval.

Take heed of this, Furious.  The "I'd like to join!" threads are basically introduction threads which members pay closer attention to.  Technically you don't have to post one at all, all you have to do is get the approvals and then the votes.

A couple other things I should mention about the voting system.

I said votes are always two weeks.  That is true unless one of the following conditions have been met:
1.) A sufficient number of "yes" votes tallied against the total number of active members minus the total number of "abstain" votes is achieved such that the ratio is greater than or equal to 75%, or yes/(active-abstain) >= 0.75.  Thus, if five members (out of the current twenty-one active) abstain, twelve members voting yes would create the necessary 75% majority and, even though 12/21 is not nearly 75%, because five abstained and are not counted against the total, it works.
2.) A sufficient number of "no" votes tallied against the total number of active members minus the total number of "abstain" votes is achieved such that the ratio is greater than 25%, or no/(active-abstain) > 0.25.  Thus, if five members (of the current twenty-one active) abstain, 5 members voting no would exceed the required 25% minority.  Again, even though 5/21 is not 25%, because of the abstain votes not being counted against the total, we have a majority.

Members are allowed to change their votes up until the time that the figurehead (or his/her appointee, who is me at the moment because Newby is out of town, well he's actually in town to me, because he's near me, but he's out of town as in away from everyone else) declares the vote over, which is either after the two weeks or any time after one of the two above conditions is met.

As an aside Furious, I might have given you approval before your brazen example of disregard for how our system works.  I actually just defended you over something in one of our private discussion areas.  Now I'm not so sure.
