Title: Alg2 Problem

13^13+13^20/80^-42^(16^-2\4^-1-(32^2)/(2^6-4^2))This is an actuall problem my Math teacher gave our class.
This was the VARY FIRST problem of the new semester.
Note: All notation is VB notation.
It took me a whole 1 min to figure it out ;)
He made us show the work.
So, can you solve it? If so show ALL of your work (scann the paper if you can) I wana see the processes you all take.

it was made so that you couldnt just compile it -.-
That day we were in the lab, and it has a VB compiler.

Yeah, it's pre-algebra 1.  It's just long and pointless.  I solved the first half and got sick of it.

It wasn't an insult, it was just a statement.  This really is pre-algebra material.  PEMDA (order of operations) is the first thing we learned in 5th grade math (pre-pre-algebra).

HAHAHAHA!!! You did this in PRE CALCULUS?!  Rofl!  That's rediculous!  This is why I think AP/College classes are stupid.  They can't be paced at the intelligence of the class.

Incidentally, HdxBmx, your notes are wrong:

x^-1 =\= 1/x^3

x^-1 = 1/x

Whops, typo.
Modifyed it to ^-2 so that I can show the actuall movement.
The formula was correct, and thats the only thing I use when reading my notes.
The examples are for my techer when he reads the notes.

Anyways, ALL math classes go back to previous classes at times.

We're on sin(x + y) = sin(x)cos(y) + cos(x)sin(y)

Yeah, but you shouldn't be doing order of operations in Pre-Calculus.  Additionally, not all classes recurse to their prerequisites.  In Calculus, we might spend a few minutes reviewing on of the concepts of trigonometry (like the identities when we're doing implicit differentiation), but that's it.  Just to save us the trouble of finding a reference.  We don't have a section of trig identities or anything like that.

We're on sin(x + y) = sin(x)cos(y) + cos(x)sin(y)

Those thingies. :)

All trig identities are almost intuitively obvious (if you think about it).  Have you ever looked at a sine/cosine wave function?

The core ones are:

sin^2(x) + cos^2(x) = 1
tan^2(x) + 1 = sec^2(x)
cot^2(x) + 1 = csc^2(x)

I have a REALLY hard time reading math in ASCII.  I recommend you check out MathType.  It's free.  The full versoin costs money, but even it's free for 30 days.

Anybody want to explain Law of Tangent and Law Of Cosine to me? (Basically just tell me what they are, I can figure the rest out. :D)

It's not that it's hard to understand, it's that I find it difficult to read.  There's less possibilities for notation.  What's easier to read (and actually understand how to simplify it) for you:

1/((1/x^2)/(x^3))^2

or:

Looks perfectly fine for me, + I dont like TALL things -.- they annoy me cuz I like 1 lined things, so each subset line can be the next step.

Also For crazy symbols, I turn to the crazy hebrews!

Whatever floats your boat.  Wait until you get into harder math and you have things that you can't even begin to do in ASCII (sensibally anyway).

We're comparing ASCII to MathType, not Unicode to MathType. :P

That's "Aleph sub zero," not "Zero times Aleph" or "the value of cantor(x) when x = 0," which is what you've symbolized.

That symbol is Cantor's notation for the set of all real integers, by the way.  The "lesser" of all infinities: { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ... }

Oh well, when I get into higher math, i'll prolly change. Nothing about me is set in stone.  Every pattern/method I use is fluid.
Oh well, What i cant do in notepad, I can on paper, and I have a scanner, so.....

And you probably won't unless you take Number Theory or something along those lines.  I've read about Cantors in a few books I've chosen to read for recreational purposes.  Cantor went insane; he was probably bipolar, but that doesn't mean that the complicatedness of his philosophies contributed to the cause.

c[0] is still "c times zero."  I know they're your personal notes, but practicing formal mathematical notation is a really good idea.  ASCII notes for higher level math is stupid. :P

I didn't say you weren't fluid; I'm trying to take advantage of your "fluidness," in fact. :P

If I remember correctly, Algebra ONE includes limits (at least it did when I took it), which are pretty hard to notate using ASCII.

lim(x->infinity)[1/x] = 0

I suppose that works, but this looks so much nicer:

Not to mention this isn't an algebra problem at all.  Algebra entails the use of variables... no variables here. ;)

When you get into more complicated math, I doubt you'll enjoy the complications that come with writing everything in a streamline way.  It's a pain in the ass; trust me, I've tried it.

I don't want to try to read your ASCII notes.  It hurts my eyes. :P

I agree with Sidoh, it's pretty useless for me to waste my time on... I'd have to rewrite it on a piece of paper to see what it looks like... because to me that looks like a bunch of crap. With a "\" symbol that I'm not familiar with.
