I melted the PCB in my laptop's battery enclosure...now I have 6 perfectly functional Lithium ion batteries with nothing to regulate them :(

I'm considering finding a fun way to blow them up.

I haven't even glanced at a Starcraft 2 replay, but the Warcraft 3 win mechanism relied 100% on the player actually staying long enough to get a victory/defeat screen (via all opponents leaving or actually destroying their bases).  I assume that Starcraft 2 suffers the same limitation that it is hard to figure out who won a game that was not "over" when you left the game.  Custom maps have solved this problem by basically injecting custom variables into the replay actions with their own standardized meanings.  Obviously that isn't a solution for generic Starcraft 2 ladder play.

I never remember to go look when I'm at home and have access to my backup server.  However, here is a crappy article about it from people that don't know what they are talking about and impressed by things that are actually pretty common in the Enterprise environment:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-10209580-92.html

What it doesn't talk about is the multi-tiered structure that search requests are actually handled (at a hardware level).  Each cluster group has nodes dedicated to handling requests, routing requests to servers most likely to have results cached, and servers that do nothing but handle optimizing what is currently cached in their huge memory banks from disk.  Essentially, they replace a typical SAN environment with a distributed cache/routing/control cluster.

A lot of their speed is garnered by some very specifically tailored hardware architecture modifications.  I wrote a paper / presentation on it when I was still an undergrad and could dig it up if anyone is interested.

One of my old machine was named Automaton (re: futura series finale or maybe I should call it the first series finale :P) which has been one of my favorites.  Since then I've used exclusively DotA character names because so many of them are cool.  If I include VM names, I've used the following:

atropos
azwraith
traxex
crsyalix
rigwarl
ezalor
lion
dirge
akasha
leshrac
razor
rooftrellen
rexxar
lucifer
naix
balanar
sven

I use the first letter as a loose tool for denoting what purpose I use the machine for and its a system that works really well for me.

I don't think that this thread will have much of an impact on my word choice.

There is a portable version of pidgin that should already have a modification similar to this.

What's the correct social response to a "coming out" event?

"Congratulations!" ?
"Happy Coming-Out day!" ?
"Get well soon." ?

(kidding :P)

Probably not.  Blaze hit the motherload with S2.

He's referring to the php rendering.  Single quotes are treated as string literals, double quotes are parsed for variables.  Citation
