Title: Bank Account
Post by: AntiVirus on July 27, 2006, 01:14:10 am
Today I decided that I had to get off of my lazy ass and establish a bank account at my new location.  So I got out of my house and drove to Bank of America!  I've never banked with them before, but they seem like they are a good bank.  I had almost no choice because in Rolla there aren't many banks there that are also in Springfield.  While I was there the guy kept trying to get me to get a Credit Card after I already told him I wasn't interested at the time.  It was kind of annoying because he kept giving me his real life experinces with bad credit and how he said I should start early. As much as I crave to be in debt; I had to say no. :P

Anyway, that's what I did today!  Does anyone Bank here, too?!

My cousin manages a BoA. He's only been there a few months and is doing pretty well. That's about my only experience with 'em, but alot of that probably has to do with the lack of them in my area.

My girlfriends friends mom is some important person at Bank of America. Like she's fourth down from the CEO I think. I use Wachovia.

I should put my money into the bank account tied to my cash card. It's only got $~270 on it, and I have $500-600 in cash now waiting to be rolled into an account. :)

Yeah, I sort of had that problem too, newby.  I moved and so I had to cancel my former Bank accounts and get a new one because my old bank was only a local one.  So I had my checks from my two jobs just laying around forever and I had to do something with them.. So I finally got a bank account and I feel so much better. ^^

Not sure how widely used Washington Mutual is, but I have my main accounts there. Checking, and Savings, with direct deposit from work. It's actually quite nifty, not having to cash my checks.

Same deal with my dad. He likes 'em.

I recommend the Royal Bank.  Yep.

The only problem I have is that they don't make it easy (for me) to get a credit card.  Last time I was there, I said I was interested in getting a credit card.  He handed me a brochure and said to call the 1-800 number.  Shouldn't they be TRYING to make money on me? :-/

My boss uses BoA so I go there alot, friendly people at ours.

I use FirstLight Federal Credit Union...meh, its ok.  The best part is that they have a good number of ATM machines around town & one on campus even, that's hella nice.

I've decided to move most of my money to StateFarmBank, though.  I have $4k in CDs there & am about to start a mutual fund thing (I think) there for $52k.

I've thought about a CC, I think I might get one soon.  I don't believe I'd spend more money than I spend now so I could just pay it off every 30 days & just go like that...it'd be nice to start building my credit.

I use Navy Federal Credit Union.  Like all other service benifits, their rates are incredible.  Who wishes they made 4-5% on their savings account?

Are there even Royal Banks in America?

And my bank guy was trying to get me to get a credit card because he makes money off of it if I sign up.

It costs $10 to start direct deposit where I work so I still haven't done it. It's not a big hassle to just swing by the bank...there's a branch near my work, near my mothers work, near my girlfriends house, and near my house...so I'm never too far from one.

I plan to get my own credit card when I turn 18. I have a platinum card now but it's under my mothers account, but I wonder if that will help me at all when applying for one?

Either take out a small loan, or get a credit card with a low amount of money available.  I now have a credit score of ~800, and I'm only 19.

I use the Bank of Montreal (http://www.bmo.com/), and they suck bad.  Really bad. One of these days I'm going to run over to TD Waterhouse (http://www.tdwaterhouse.ca/) and get an account there.  :)
