Trash Can / The ILTJ! Resolution
« on: November 22, 2008, 08:32:29 pm »
November 22, 2008
To the Leadership, Clan, and Common-Wealth of x86:

As you may already know, Trolls & Co. has recently been egregiously denied an "I'd like to join!" board. We consider it no less than an infringement on our personal liberties. Indeed, while we may have representation in x86, it is not in proportion to our numbers. This injustice clearly nullifies any right that x86 may have to pass legislation that conflicts with our interests.

As a resolution to this dilemma, we have decided that we will nonetheless install a T&C "I'd like to join board!" (ITLJ!) The T&C ILTJ! board is henceforth incidental to the extant ILTJ! forum. That is, the extant ILTJ! forum will now serve a double purpose: the x86 recruitment forum, and the T&C recruitment forum. In short, we instruct all aspiring applicants to post your applications in ILTJ!

The moderators of ITLJ! have three options:
1) To delete the T&C applications from the forum, in which case we win, since they're being tyrants.
2) To trash the posts, in which case we also win, since the Trash Can was really our first choice for a recruitment forum.
3) To acquiesce, in which case we also win, as is self-evident.

So you see it's a win-win-win situation for Trolls & Co. Long live our glory.

On behalf of T&C,
Ender
Co-founder and Co-president of T&C
Parliamentary Representative from the Colony of Offtopia
Edmund Burke Professor of Trolling at the College of Offtopia

You know, I sort of like that idea. It means that myself (and the other leaders) can participate in the discussion while nobody else (including the person that originally posted) can. Sounds like a win to everybody involved
I can also participate in the thread by editing my OP. =)

Anyone listen to them? They're really good. At first I had a case of "pop prejudice" and didn't think they could be that good... but they are!

Of course, I didn't just find out about them; I've known about them for a while now. But I never really got into them until recently, even though I liked what I heard way back when.

Ender's Book Club / World Chess Championship
« on: October 27, 2008, 10:26:46 pm »
So yeah, don't know if you guys know about it, but the World Chess Championship is underway. Actually, it's almost over. Anand is owning Kramnik 6:4 right now. I believe he only needs one more draw to clinch the match and successfully defend his title.

Two good places to read about it are www.chessbase.com and the official site www.uep-worldchess.com/.

Trash Can / Re: Trash from book thread (dark_drake was tired of it all)
« on: October 22, 2008, 11:35:12 pm »
Personally, I stress the importance of all sorts of details throughout the text, taking it as a whole, and thus have no difficulty suffering through slow portions, but, for one who does have such difficulty, that is a fairly solid plan.
Don't pretend to know me or my reading style--your contempt is really quite pointless.

While this is your forum, your hostility is really quite pointless. He was making a suggestion.

To be fair, I would also interpret that post as condescending. But it could very well have just been a mistake resulting from the haste in which we write forum posts. That is, there's no need to harbor grudge for it, but it doesn't make sense to reprehend deadly :P

Who changed my name? This is a flagrant abuse of leader privileges. I have half a mind to write a declaration of independence.

Ender's Book Club / Topalov won Bilbao
« on: September 15, 2008, 05:34:09 pm »
Topalov won Bilbao... *sigh*. I was rooting for Carlsen or Ivanchuk. Oh well, Carlsen got 2nd, and Ivanchuk did well... and Ivanchuk did win both the Tal Memorial and Tal Blitz.

I really liked the tournament, however. A lot of fighting chess! I think the drawing restrictions, and the football scoring, may be for the better. Not sure about the time controls, though.

Entertainment District / [SPOILERS] House Discussion Thread
« on: September 09, 2008, 06:15:50 pm »
k I watched the season finale a little while ago and I'm too lazy to look things up, but am I correct in remembering that Thirteen tested positive for Huntington's?

I remember a sheet of blood diseases that she was holding at the end of the finale, and all of them were black except one, the line for Huntington's, which was red. So this of course suggests she has it.

Who here watches House? Smallville? Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles?

I ask because I'm thinking of making discussion threads in the Media Center, but it may be pointless if no more than 3 people watch any particular show.

Ender's Book Club / (Live Chess Game) Anand - Ivanchuk
« on: September 02, 2008, 12:21:26 pm »
There's a super-super-GM tournament going on right now in Bilbao... 6 of the top 8 players according to liverating.org are participating, including the World Champion Anand.

Right now Anand, who is also the #1 rated player in the world, is playing Ivanchuk, who is #2 in the world according to liverating. Here's the link for live coverage: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chesslive

i met naomi novik in person today! =)

naturally this is an occasion for glory all in itself, but i inform you with the humblest of intentions: there is more

now as my mind entertains only the noblest of thoughts, it did not dawn on me, until a long few minutes after the fact, that since she's famous, and i met her, i too am famous by association

thus in lieu of the natural order of things u must address me now as "mr. ender", "sir ender", "khan ender", "the prince of darkness", or "the fist of justice"

i will postpone my other titles in for the sake of brevity, and end this declaration of celebrity with a few quotes from our founding fathers:

"we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, except for celebrities"
one more
"and when the king lays down his sword of justice, the people are still a people, but the king no longer a king"

best wishes to my loyal servants
~

General Discussion / We all know politicians are stupid...
« on: August 18, 2008, 07:42:49 am »
...but it's surprising this also dribbles down into chess organizations!

http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=4839

The letter that the organizing committee released regarding the Georgia chess federation's request, voicing an opinion shared by the international chess organization FIDE, is so unbelievably stupid that it only shows that politics, in all spheres of influence, not only corrupts the heart but also weakens the mind. Of course there are exceptions (like Kasparov and Obama) but this truly does seem to be the case in the majority of politicians. It's like they say: show me a politician and I'll show you a dumb person.

The great thing about America is that at least we get smart people in one of the three branches, i.e. the Judiciary. They actually have to learn something before being selected for office :P
