Atomic Clock = auto set, GG!

Funny story though, we were of course in Green Bay. Andy wakes me up at 8:30 in the morning (actually 7:30).
Joe: Andy, you sure you fixed the time?
Andy: Yeah
John: Uh, I got 7:30 over here, and I fixed mine.
Joe: Fine, I'll get packed. *does*
--------
Joe: Hey Pastor Craig, whats taking you guys so long?
Pastor Craig: We have another hour man.
Joe: ANDY!

The synchronization tower is a few hours away from my house (I'm pretty sure, hehe).  It's somewhere in Colorado, I know.

Denver.

Incorrect.  I wasn't sure on where it was, but I was sure it wasn't Denver, so I did some research.  It's in Fort Collins, which is about an hour North of Denver.

The NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology, Time and Frequency Division) maintains a radio station, WWVB, in Ft. Collins, Colorado. The WWVB radio station derives its signal from the NIST atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado. A team of atomic physicists is continually measuring every second of every day, to an accuracy of ten billionths of a second per day. These physicists have created an international standard, measuring a second as 9,192,631,770 vibrations of a Cesium-133 atom in a vacuum.

NIST radio station WWV broadcasts time and frequency information 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to millions of listeners worldwide. WWV is located in Fort Collins, Colorado, about 100 kilometers north of Denver. The broadcast information includes time announcements, standard time intervals, standard frequencies, UT1 time corrections, a BCD time code, geophysical alerts, marine storm warnings, and Global Positioning System (GPS) status reports.

The most accurate time and date available. Our Desktop Atomic Clock synchronizes daily with the U.S. Atomic Clock at Fort Collins, CO to ensure absolute accuracy. The big-digit LCD time display is easy-to-read and has a reverse LED backlight for night viewing. Displays month, day, date, and indoor temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius. Radio icon shows strength of signal received from the U.S. Atomic Clock. Snooze alarm. Displays time in 12- or 24-hour format. Uses 4 AA batteries (not included) or AC adapter (included).

Wouldn't that be the best job ever?  Never really need to do anything.  Your job generates data that in turn emphasizes the need of your job to exist in perpetuity.  Hahahaha.

Hello, precisceness!
That's on my first page of notes in one of my classes (Real-time systems).  He told us to memorize it for the exam, as a joke, and somebody in my class really did memorize it, also as a joke.  *shrug*

In that same class, my prof was telling us that DST was invented to help stores make more money.  Since people don't like shopping in the dark, they extended days by an hour to give stores an hour more business in the summer, which is also the reason they're extending it.  In December, people will shop anyway.  And in January/February, nobody shops anyway.

He didn't cite his source on this information, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if that's the actual reason.

We have one province without Daylight Savings Time -- Saskatchewan.  And Saskatchewan is the worst province in the country.  Does that mean that Arizona is the worst state in the USA?

I heard it had something to do with war, and getting more work done during the day time during war.  I think I read that on Wikipeida... *shrug*

It was! =D

Oh, btw, Worst province is Quebec, because its always revolting.

My prof said it was implemented in the 20's.  But Wikipedia disagrees.  So who knows?

And btw, you're right, but Sasketchewan is the second worst.  Ok?

Ha! Sucks to be an Ontarian, you Quebec-toucher!

I don't think Hawaii has DST either.  I could be mistaken, though.

That's what I've heard too.

Also, there are a bunch of counties around the country (USA, FYI) that don't do DST.  It's annoying, because you'll be in some town, drive five minutes, and have to change your clock.  Also, there are some weird places that only do 30 minutes of DST...

That's true of Arizona (the whole state doesn't observe DST) and there are also counties in Indiana that don't observe DST.  And yes, the problem you mentioned is true.  Particularly troublesome is when school districts' boundaries lie not equal to county lines.  :)

So half your school is on DST, the other half isn't?  Thats crazy.  :)

No, it's when time at your house differs an hour from the school's time.
