As of Friday, gasoline here is up to $1.04/liter. That's $4.16/gallon. That's pretty brutal :(
-
it's at about $2.30 on the East Coast, $3.30ish on the West Coast, and they're expecting about $4 by next summer.
-
It's 2.70 here in MN, that bites ass. by the time I'm driving (+3 years) gas will be like 5 bucks a gallon!
-
http://www.sanjosegasprices.com/
Ron you're paying as much as people in China. Poor you. And you better be talking about US$
Edit: Useful tool... http://www.sanjosegasprices.com/retail_price_chart.aspx
Edit2: Trust, don't make up bullshit :P
-
I got those figures off the news. OK, so I used the highest one they mentioned. Shut up.
-
You would think Canada's prices would be cheaper, since thats one of the major places the US buys its oil from. The taxes are to blame I'm sure.
-
Northern Ireland's gas was £3.20/litre in 2003 (like..$8.00/gal). Sucks to be them.
-
Lots of gas stations here only go up to 99.9 so I'm like 8)
-
To they wrap back around to 00.0?
Homer - "Free gas, woo hoo!"
-
To they wrap back around to 00.0?
Homer - "Free gas, woo hoo!"
I wish!
And yeah, it's $4.16 Canadian, which would be about $3.60 - $3.80 American.
-
To they wrap back around to 00.0?
Homer - "Free gas, woo hoo!"
How big was that rv's gas tank? :P
-
It's sad, really, considering I remember when gas was 95 cents.
-
Me too. Per liter. :P
I've seen it as low as $0.50/liter ($2/gallon), that's the cheapest I've seen it in my entire life
-
It was under a dollar a gallon a few years ago.
-
It's sad, really, considering I remember when gas was 95 cents.
88 cents Bakersfield, CA. Good times.
-
$6.00/1.00 litre in The Netherlands.
Then again half of us get around by bike :P.
-
Why is it per 1.04 litre ? You guys make life complex :(.But your bikes get stolen don't they :S?
-
Sometimes. It happens.
We use the metric system but I know USA standards too, the rest of world knows metric, ok?
-
Yea, I know that.. I also know that the rest of the world pays per litre and not per 1.04 litre.
-
1.00* litre. Typo overlooked.
-
$6.00/1.00 litre in The Netherlands.
Then again half of us get around by bike :P.
Haha, $24/gallon.. nice
A lot of people here use bikes, too. 50% of people at my work do (3!)
-
You have also understand we don't get as much imports from major oil suppliers as USA and Canada and England does, also keep in mind our economy is the worst it has been since the 1950's. I can remember all my life gas prices being high, even though the economy was ok. Also it is not 24$ a gallon it is roughly 16-18$ (USD).
-
How can it be $6/liter and not $24/gallon? 1 liter = 3.8 US Gallons, so 6 liter = 22.9 gallons :/
-
Most people in the city use bikes, but out near me (farmland South Jersey) you have to use a car to get anywhere...
-
How can it be $6/liter and not $24/gallon? 1 liter = 3.8 US Gallons, so 6 liter = 22.9 gallons :/
I just had some trouble with my US standard/metric and euro-to-dollar math, adding it again I assume 14-16$ is the average price per "gallon" here. Or 4$ a liter, or 4.23 euro a liter.
-
$2.49+ here. Rises almost everyday. :(
-
$2.55 is pretty much the cheapest here.
-
$2.79 today, yea it was like 95¢ couple years ago........id say in 2001-2002? maybe..... it was like $1.30-1.50 beginning of summer but went up becuase the oil people want more money, there arent many refinerys and that president in Sudia Arubia ( i think thats the place ) died. Good thing i get 30-40 miles per gallon with my car
-
Its now 95.6, which is much better then 102.9 or 99.9 (The gas stations with only 3 digit signs)
-
I've seen $0.67 a gallon when I lived in Wyoming, when my local gas stations were in a price war, it was leet.
-
It is $1.17 hier in Neu Schottland, so don't complain.
-
Who are you? Also, Neu Schottland? And what denomination?

Neu Schottland is New Scotland, which is Englsh for Nova Scotia. It's a Canadian province.

http://www.google.ca/search?.17+canadian+dollars+to+dollars
1.17 Canadian dollars = 0.98360613 U.S. dollars
-
Then why did he say "so don't complain" if it's that cheap? We're complaining about it being high!
-
In Canada, we measure by liters. So multiply that by 4, it's about $4/gallon. It's a little more than it is here, it's about $3.90/gallon now
-
I just drank 1/2 a liter of soda!
-
Then why did he say "so don't complain" if it's that cheap? We're complaining about it being high!

$1.089/liter now, and expected to go up by the weekend :(

ROFL!! No, not even close. I am actually in a German class in High school. That is just the basics, seeing that that is all I know. Lets try to do a little more research before we just go around and assume things, and take it as the obvious truth. Aka, Don't be a Jackass, and just ask a simple (nice) question to find out more. I hope that isn't too hard.

Haha, Kicked that kraut's shitter.
(Oh, sorry for the "picking on the german" in your forum, iago; He's just a jerk.)

Oh shit. Oh fuck. You sure schooled me. I had better watch out for the highschool educated German professor.
While we're at it: TIME MANNER PLACE
What the fuck were you trying to say anyway?
Ich fahre das Auto zur Schule?
See that? Was that hard? Since there is no time element to the sentence, MANNER comes first (with the car) and PLACE comes last (to school).
Why would you fucking use kommen anyway? You come to school with the car? Would you say that in english? I certainly fucking wouldn't.
Since when was Schule a masc/neuter noun? Since when don't you capitalize nouns in German? WHEN? IT MUST HAVE BEEN VERY FUCJING RECDINTLY BEFAUSET I SUFRE AS FUSFCK DIDNTT EKWRNOW ABOITUST IT
-

You ALWAYS capitalize nouns in Germany. I suppose I had a typo, seeing that I already knew that.
I never claimed to be a "German Professor", I said I am in a german class, thus I didn't have to use a translator (for the easy stuff).
I used "Kommen" because that means to come, and I am coming to school with an automobile.
Ich komme zur schule mit dem Auto.
Ich - I
Komme = To come
Zur Schule = To school
Mit Dem Auto = With an automobile
If you put it all together: "I come to school with a car" it makes perfect since.
You come to school with the car? Would you say that in english? I certainly fucking wouldn't.
You don't write in German the same way as you write in English. And if I were to say that in first person, It would be "I come to school with a car" which makes perfect since.
I don't know anything about this "Time Manner Place" deal, but I will just take your word for it.
-
Ich fahre das Auto zur Schule?
Doesn't fahren mean "to ride"? So you ride cars?
-
Lmao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I too ride cars. They are amazing!

Sure, but it also means to drive.

Oh, Okay. :) I didn't quite remember, since I last had German. (I am in german 3/4 this year, and I was in Germany for part of the summer.)

Omg. 3.05/gal at Cheveron... 3.09 at Rotten Robbie ? WTF !?!? IMPOSSIBLE!

$3.39 here :\

3.20$ yesterday where I live.

$3.89 / Gallon here.

Gas prices are crazy!!
How many of you guys drive trucks/suv's?
-
Nice Super_X, what part of Germany?
Sorry it took me so long to reply!! I was just outside of Hamburg, but I travled to Berlin the last week.
@ Topic: Gas is $0.30 more expensive by the freeway! Also, I drive an old Chevy S-10, it's decent gas wise.. 19/city, 23/highway.
-
Gas prices are crazy!!
How many of you guys drive trucks/suv's?
Sometimes I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but I really dislike filling it up. ;)
-
My family all drive Toyotas. 30mpg.. :P
-
We have one Honda, one Toyota, and one Mazda.
-
My family all drive Toyotas.
Same here. We also all have black cars. My mom had to spend 88$ to fill up her truck the other day, and that is rediculous(sp?).
-
Wow, we have 2 Chrysler Minivans... about 20 mpg each. $50 to fill.

I want my first car to be a hybrid!.... I highly doubt it.

I want my first car to be a hybrid!.... I highly doubt it.
Yes. Chicks will love it?
"Can you go faster please?" "BITCH I'M FLOORING IT."
That's a serious problem with people right now. For some reason, they want to be able to accelerate very fast, and save the extra 2 or 3 seconds at the cost of the environment. Are the extra seconds really so important that you would spend a ton of money on gas if electric cars were a reasonable price?
-
Ron, where I live you have to beable to accelerate fast, or you will get hit. Down here in Kansas City, Missouri if you don't get going fast enough up an on ramp you will most likely get ran off to the side, or get hit.. Our on ramps are extremely small, and poorly built.
So yes, the extra seconds are really important to some of us. :)
-
@iago: Yes.
-
In Winnipeg, people accelerate slow as hell, and it's a real pain.
But I think that people need to get their priorities straight. Everybody is so busy complaining about how much gas is costing, yet they're still driving everywhere. I personally bike almost everywhere, and take the bus when I have to. Alternative technologies to power cars exist, but they don't accelerate as fast! Oh no!
-
They're also pretty expensive.
People in America understand time is money. :P I shouldn't complain, here we have our fast and slow people, but generally it's a pretty comfortable pace - the south is much more relaxed. But when I was in NJ and NY, DAMN, you would be pwned++.
-
They're also pretty expensive.

-
In Calculus today (this isn't a Calculus problem, it was just a trailoff), we were talking about gas prices.
Americans have been getting massive discounts on gas due to government reductions. The government pays oil companies so much per galon of gas (or barrel of oil, I suppose), which causes dramatic reductions in prices of gas in the US. The actual price of gas right now is about $4.00/gallon, so we're still seeing a somewhat significant discount compared to the rest of the world.
Buying a Hybrid right now will pay for itself in about 10.5 years, which is still somewhat of a letdown. However, that's assuming you drive 15,000 miles a year. If you drive more, the time will decrease.
A new hybrid (on average): $45,000
A new small truck (Ford Ranger, Tyota Tacoma -- the most common cars on the road): $25,000
Difference: $15,000
Average price of gas in the US: $3.25/gallon
Average miles drove: 15,000 Miles
Average gas mileage of a hybrid: 62 Miles/Gallon
Average gas mileage of a small truck: 22 Miles/Gallon
15 000 / (((15 000 / 22) * 3.25) - ((15 000 / 62) * 3.25)) = 10.4923077 Years (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=%2815000+%2F+%28%28%2815000+%2F+22%29+*+3.25%29+-+%28%2815000+%2F+62%29+*+3.25%29%29%29)
So yeah. Hybrids are nice, but until they come down in price, they're still not too much worth it. This is (obviously) an very averaged figure, so they could pay for themselves much sooner if the figures were different. These are fairly accurate average numbers, though.
I think it's atually a good thing that the gas prices are going up like this. It's the really the only logical thing that is going to give us a kick in the ass to develop a reasonable alternative fuel source.
-

Pizz-owned, well, if your vehicle runs on diesel...
-
That and it's still not exactly efficient. I think we need to steer clear of the internal combustion engine, if oyu ask me.
I've seen similar solutions with E80. They seem like a nice idea, as they are an alternative fuel source, but they're still horribly ineficient. The internal combustion engine is less than 1% efficient. That's sad...
Also... I forgot to mention in my previous long-winded post:
Another thing to consider with Hybrid cars is that they're a foreign car (to us, anyway). This means parts are generally much more expensive. When you bring one in for repairs, the bill is probably going to be a lot higher than it would be for an average American-made car. Not that this is a fair argument, but it is still a valid point.
-
Two of my friends' families have space cars (the crazy electric hybrids that turn off and on when stopping/moving and charge when stopping). They are awesome ^^

Solar power !! A solar powered sailcar ;o?

This was the Hybrid discussed in my previous message. The standard ideal behind the Hybrids that exist today follow this model.
And Ergot: That has been analyzed before. Solar panels simply do not supply enough energy for a car to go 60mph for hours on end.
At NYLF Tech, we were assigned some project in which we were required to design 'the car of the future.' We ended up making a car using cell-batteries (so it would charge extremely fast) with solar panels on top which gave you a few extra miles of driving time every hour that it absorbed direct sunlight. Our fueling stations were Hydrogen-fuel cells. It was actually a pretty good idea, but it would require too much change. Converting every fueling station in the world over to Hydrogen-produced electricity would take far to much effort than it is worth at this point. The winner in our category designed a car that was powered off of E80. It was one of the suggestions in the pamphlet for our category... it was lame as hell.
-
On a side note, the lowest gas price I saw when I was driving around today was $2.96 :)
-
Lowest in my area is $2.79, according to the news.
-
Yeah but we get full-service up here ^^
-
Yeah but we get full-service up here ^^
Is it illegal to self-pump in your state? I forget where you live, but I know in NJ it's illegal to pump your own gas. I didn't like that, because one time we were in a hurry and we had this slow ass Muslim guy who took FOREVER. He walked like 3 feet/hr.
-
(Yes, NJ) Yeah but whatever. I'd rather be a bit late for something then get out in non 65-72°F, sunny weather to pump my damn gas when I can have some guy do it for me.
-
On a side note, the lowest gas price I saw when I was driving around today was $2.96 :)
That's pretty good. The lowest I've seen in a while is ~$3.20 a gallon.
-
Bah!
The lowest I've seen lately is $1.16/liter, which is $4.64/gallon
-
See my above comment on government compensation for gas prices in US. :)
-
For a week we we're up at 3.45, now we're down to 2.99 a gallon.
-
Canada gets free health care and doesn't pay for war or the side effects of terrorist attacks.
Stop complaining. (Not that I'd ever want government sponsored health care, mind you.)
-

We do pay for side effects of terrorist attacks. Anything that affects the US tends to affect us more.
Government sponsored healthcare is great for the average person, since it saves us a lot of money in the long run (even though it takes longer). But if you're rich, or have a rich family, or a good job where they give you a health plan, then you're better off with the American system.
-
I disagree, with government sponsored health care you can only go to ones where the government says you can (meaning, most likely, the cheapest) and it could be detrimental. I'm all for privitization of health care (and other things.)
Is Katrina affecting you guys?
-

Is Katrina affecting you guys?
Because all healthcare here is government-provided, it means that there aren't any non-government facilities.
Yes, Katrina is affecting us.. Why do you think we're paying nearly $5/gallon for gas?
-
Because you get free health care.
Why isn't there an option for a privatized health care firm?
-
The price of oil is an international price http://www.bloomberg.com/energy/ The prices differ due to taxes and such. The oil isn't what we need though its actual gas. There is an abundance of oil comming out of the ground, but a refinery hasn't been made in the US since 1975.
Why isn't there an option for a privatized health care firm?
Becasue its like communism, everyone is equally unhappy, but atleast they are equal!
-

So? They're already getting that now, at least with an optional government health care program, some people would go with the privatized one and in turn get better service, and potentially save the government money?
-
HAH! $2.95 today ^^
The government would also save money by not giving anyone health care.
-

No, right now we're getting mid-level healthcare. The waits are sometimes long, but the quality is good. If it was privitized, the government would be using the lowest-bidder.
-
I'm happy with my healthcare, but Canada need more doctors.
-
2.65$PER/GAL Thank god!! It's dropping. :D
Gas --> Health Care... Nice!!
