Title: Recommend Anti-Virus/Malware Software
Post by: Armin on December 24, 2009, 05:54:47 pm: I'm fixing up a friend's computer. He isn't very tech savvy, and his computer is rather slow, so I'm looking for a free, powerful and lightweight anti-virus/malware program.

I haven't searched much myself, but I do know Cox provides McAfee free of charge for their customers, but I also know McAfee is one hell of a resource hog.

Any suggestions?

Post by: deadly7 on December 24, 2009, 06:17:23 pm: Avast for Windows is awesome and I haven't encountered many big issues with it. The only thing is you have to "register" it every year to keep a free license, but anybody with an IQ above 50 can figure out how to do that.

The free version of the second one doesn't have a real-time scanner, but it's so damn powerful.
