How do you get your protein?
I feel like I'm too dependent on soy (tofu, soy milk), and I'm afraid that overconsumption of soy may be a bad thing. I also try to always have a container of mixed nuts in my room, as I do right now, and from now on I think I'll always get them with peanuts. Once I get my fridge I plan to make peanut butter and jelly on whole grain bread a part of my diet. So ideally, I will be getting protein from soy (tofu and soy milk), peanuts, and peanut butter.
But yeah, how do you get your protein?

Why not try protein shakes too?

For me, it's peanut butter, nuts, tofu, soy milk, and beans. So basically, what you said and beans.
I try to drink about 3 cups of soy milk/day, for the calcium (since 1 cup = 30% of RDI for calcium). So I get a decent amount right there.

Tuna, chicken, protein shakes, peanut butter. Different drinks, foods, granola bars.

You probably missed his other thread -- he's vegan (like me). That rules out tuna, chicken, protein shakes, and many kinds of granola bars. As a result, there are certain nutrients that we have to be careful to eat (iron, calcium, protein, and vitamins b12 and d).
But that reminds me, Ender -- there are a lot of really good protein bars you can get from organic stores, made out of various fruits and nuts. Some are just called "Vegan", and others are called "Rebar". Some of them taste awesome, and others (not listed here) taste like grass. Literally, grass. That one was sick. :)

Thanks =) I haven't tried any other protein bars besides Cliff bars (which I have a lot, and taste really good!) I'll look into the other ones, though I'm not sure if there's a place that sells them within walking distance.

I found a protein bar in my photo class yesterday called Detour. It was really good.

Another good source of protein I just found is "Flax Plus" toaster waffles (a lot like Eggo). They contain 6g of protein in 2, and I generally eat 4 for breakfast.
They also contain a lot of omega-6 fatty acids, which is generally difficult to come by.

Here are the various bars I was talking about:

My favourite is the orange "vegan" bar, it's made of almonds and orange, mostly. The purple "vegan" is various berries. The "rebar" one is apple and about 20 kinds of vegetables. The two "whole food energy bar" ones I haven't tried, but I had a different one of that brand, and it's the one that tasted like grass. So I recommend caution if you try those ones.
If you find any other good bars, let me know! I tend to have one for breakfast each day, and they run about $3 - $4 each, so they aren't especially cheap.

Also, check out the huevos rancheros breakfast burrito from Carls Jr. Mmmm.

lol, on the topic of protein, my cafeteria hasn't had soy milk for like a week, which is one of my main sources of protein. So on their feedback wall I wrote something like:
"WHERE'S THE SOY MILK??!!?? \\ how's a vegan supposed to survive here??"
I intended it to be derisive, though it's probably not derisive enough. I'm also thinking about making a note that reprimands the cafeteria ladies, because a couple of them deserve a good spanking.

If they have "huevos" in their name, then I'd imagine they'd contain eggs.

Or perhaps because I know all about nutrients? :P
When you don't eat meat or dairy, you have to be extra careful that you aren't missing any important vitamins or minerals.

Can I be your neighbor? The one with the grill that is always out barbeque-ing, and making awesome smelling smoke go in your house?

I don't have a house. Good luck getting your smoke to go up 16 stories! :D
