Post by: iago on January 01, 2010, 06:53:04 am
Happy New Year's! :)

I totally missed the 12:00 celebration due to falling asleep at 7:30pm, but eh? It's just another day. :)

It should be obvious from a lot of other posts I've made that I don't put too much merit in arbitrary celebrations. :)

I think every new year we should increment the clan number by 1.  And it should be retroactive.

Weird, I fell asleep at 6:30 and I didn't miss the countdown...

When I knew I was falling asleep (and paused the movie I was watching), I briefly considered setting my alarm for 11:50. Then I realized I didn't really care that much, and just went to sleep. Woke up at 1am or so and went to bed.

Nor do I. The group of people with whom I was hanging out with last night just went "hey it's 12. happy decade!" and we kept on doing whatever.

You're so cool because you're non-conformist! Who needs to celebrate the new year anyway?

Haha yeah. I think I was awake for every new years on the earth! Except for maybe Japan, since I was probably still sleeping in on the 31st when they had theirs.

Well perhaps you can enlightmen as me [and I'm sure others] as to why it's such a marvelous occassion that everyone goes all batshit crazy about it?

I don't think there's anything magical about the new year, and I'm not particularly fond of the celebration, but sometimes it's fun.  Just because a holiday is arbitrary doesn't mean you can't have a little fun. :)

I was in San Francisco for the new year.  I went and watched some fireworks, and was pretty amazed by the number of people walking through the streets.  I was even more amazed by the morons who thought it'd be a good idea to drive downtown after 12:00.

I agree with Sidoh, and I think we should invent some holidays that are set aside just to have fun :P

I'm surprised at how many people braved -40C/F temperatures here to watch fireworks. Nutty! :)

nothing amazingly spectacular, but it's basically an excuse to have a good time, however that may be for you. Our society basically stops over the holiday, most people don't have school or work, so why not enjoy yourself? I'm just tired of people having the attitude that they're superior because they don't "party" or conform to the social norm. But ts whatever, I'm not here to start arguements. We're all friends here :)

people already have: thirsty Thursdays, fucked up Fridays, etc..

Come to Canada. They invent holidays here all the time.

We have at least one holiday each month, except June I think.

Right, but most people I know (myself included) already party/socialize the rest of the year anyway. What I'm wondering is if there's anything special about that night, other than that you're guaranteed (unless you're a hotshot doctor/nurse) never to work the next day? I don't avoid parties, on the contrary I've done some of the stupidest shit ever while drunk. Everything has its place, though, and I'd rather just be hanging out with friends than drunk and retarded most of the time.

It's a celebration of a New Year, meaning we made it through the past 364 days alright. So let's do a bunch of crazy shit just in case we don't make it through the next 365.

Never, ever drink so much that you've blacked out and still proceed to talk to girls when all you can say are things a four year old would know how to say. It just does not work.

I've never drank till I blacked out, although I've drank till the room spun and I got sick. Getting sick before blacking out and doing stupid things is probably a good thing. :)

Black out drunk at the Naval Academy seems like a really bad idea. Your butt doesn't hurt from falling over in a drunken stupor.
