Title: Are any of you into firearms?
Post by: CrAz3D on September 05, 2007, 10:56:29 AM
I'm planning on making my first purchase soon.  I've always heard awesome about Glock re: bang for the buck.  I'm gonna go for a near-compact sized 9mm to use for open carry and eventually concealed.  But until I'm a fairly decent shot I just won't carry.

Anyhow, anyone have insight on good handguns?

Handguns suck, get a PSG-1 instead :)

Get an awp :D

Wait....

Anyway, if you get a Glock, make sure you stick with the right sized mags.  I know police use Glocks (at least in Philly), so I'm sure it's a good gun.  Also, be careful where you walk around with a concealed gun, since most states don't allow it, and the few that do require licenses.

Concealed weapons permit for the win!

I'm not, I've actually only shot once. I'd like to do it more though, and it's a HUGE thing here (I mean, we allow students to have rifles on campus.) Do you want it for recreation or for protection?

Yeah, most police forces use Glock.  As far as the mag goes, I seem to recall reading something about limits, but I'm sure if I buy in a store I'll be good.

MOST states (48) offer some sort of concealed carry license and about half of the states allow open carry.  New Mexico happens to be a kickass state and you can carry open pretty much anywhere (exceptions are the general courts, public schools, universities, places posting otherwise) without license.  I seem to recall some big stink here about a restriction on firearms within like 50 yards of a school.  People got upset and sued, I think?  Maybe?

I don't want a rifle just yet, when I start hunting I'll get one.  If I get anything big it'll be a shotgun, maybe tactical :o.
Currently it'll be for practice as I'm not a good enough shot to warrant carrying it around (if something DOES happen, however unlikely that is, I want to be able to hit what I'm shooting at)

H&K .40 = win.

As for clip size, most states limit you to < 10 bullets. Anything above is illegal. At least, that's how it is here in California to my knowledge.

I'm lookin for a 9mm for now.  At some point (in a year or 2) I'll step up to a .45 or a pretty .357 revovler.  Shot one of those this weekend while out campin', that thing was friggin' loud out in the mountains

Glock has a wide range of capabilities.  They have 9mm, .45, and .357 (and another .3xx caliber, but I forget which).  They also have mags up to 30 rounds or something like that.

dont you have to have like tons of permits to own, carry, conceal, fire, and others? and then you have to wait like 20 days or something so they can check your background..

It's New Mexico. Can you speak English? Good. Here's your gun. Have a nice day, be careful with that thing.

Glocks aren't great. Honestly, most 9mm isn't too great.

The H&K P9S is pretty decent.
Beretta PX4 Storm.
Also, I know Browning makes a few 9mm, and I was really impressed with their .22, which is what I own.

I'm not a fan of .22s, they are just weak looking little things.  I guess I like big guns.  I had fun with a black powder shotgun, and I've always wanted to try out a .50 and hopefully one day even a Vulcan :D  An 88 wouldn't be unfun either :P

I'm not really for .22's, either, but fuck, if you're going for a pussy handgun, might as well make it a pussy handgun you can shoot in your backyard.

Open Carry = just fucking walk around with it.
Concealed = you have to take a class and get a license.

Glocks seem to be the "best bang for the buck" also, I have a .22 revolver, and a 9mm is what I'm lookin for right now, eventually I'll step up to a 45.

Well, I was arguing that they aren't the best bang for the buck, but eh, suit yourself.

Oh, honestly all I've ever heard is that Glock is the best bang for the buck.

What've you heard/experienced in contrast?

They're relatively weak, and it's not really made up for in the pricing. Also, I know someone who had one, and it wasn't too reliable. They ended up getting a H&K.
