Title: Looking for an internal hard-drive enclosure..
Post by: Newby on October 15, 2007, 01:32:37 AM
Looking to craft my own external hard-drive. :)

So far, I'm considering this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817332012) or this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817198003). Maybe even this one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817173043). Who knows?

Anybody have any experience with this? What should I look for? I'm looking for one to house my SATA drive I *never* use...

all overpriced

Find a broken LaCiE (or similar) on ebay and swap the drive out.  Try to find one with a similar capacity and obviously the same type (eSATA capable).  Should be able to get something in the 20-25 range.

I have a broken LaCie, and it could fit two IDE drives. I don't have any spare IDE drives and they're phasing them out.

Price isn't a big issue for me... if it works, and it's a bit overpriced, I'm gonna live. I'll look around on eBay, though.

If you don't care about price, all you need is something that says it will accept a SATA drive of the capacity you want to use :)
