Holy fuck man. :/
I'm waiting for the reverse 911 call at this point... then it's out to the ocean. Or Qualcomm. I'm thinkin' Qualcomm for sure, though. I trust them over some my mom's boss, who is the reason my family broke up.
Sorry to hear that you lost those irreplaceable pictures :-/ good luck man.

Yes. I do not want to spend an evening with that homewrecking piece of shit.
It really does suck about the pictures. I do find it a bit odd that you would mention movies and clothes with irreplaceable things.
Is insurance going to cover the cost to replace a lot of that stuff?

Seeing as how so many people have lost so much stuff, you know for a fact they'll weasel out of every single item they can get away with not replacing. :|
I'm sorry to hear that, Zero. My prayers are with you and everyone in that area.

Well, if it was a bad marriage, then it could be for the best. In retrospect, I'm pretty happy that my parents broke up, they're both happier now than they would have been.

A lot of things look good in retrospect that just plain sucked.

Like letting you join?
Wait, that's the other way around! :P
(kidding!)
You brought your computer.. but left things that really mean something to you? Seems a little weird to me, although in my house the only thing that really means anything to me is my computer. Everything else is replaceable without a thought.
Also, what's up with all of you peoples parents being divorced? Almost almost my friends' parents are divorced. :\

You typically have about 20 minutes to get the fuck out when shit goes to hell, assuming he was actually at his residence when the evacuation order was given its hard to get anything of value when you need to spend that time getting things so you can rebuild your life.
Things like clothes for the next few days, and paperwork suddenly take a huge priority.
He'll probably get to live in a FEMAVille for awhile, assuming he doesn't have other plans/places.

Have you made the mental checklist of what to take or even started packing up yet?

True, it sucks but its the way it goes. Plus documenting everything that was there before hand is difficult when all you're left with is a pile of ashes.

Serious question: any way I can stay with you if we're evacuated? I'd rather go there... and if it's a mile from Qualcomm, it's probably safe.

My brother packed some basic foods that apparently won't spoil, I packed some clothing, and I took pictures of everything in my room for insurance purposes.
I'm also going to grab my lizards on the way out.

That's why I figure, get pictures or a video. And most of my possessions my dad bought, and he's in Arizona.
ZeroX, how's insurance looking? Do you have any reciepts or photos?
Newby. You're not going to get evacuated.

I was just about to suggest that. you remember where it is and what it looks like rught? anyways heres the address (call meif we do get evacuated tho) 9341 Ruffin Court San Diego Ca 92123 .thats my dads warehouse if anyone wanted to check on steetview ;)
Terrible news my friend. I guess we all have to take a look at our own situations and realize how this can happen to any class in any developed country.
On the whole 'bringing you computer' conversation, I completely agree my my machines are irreplaceable. I have always told myself in the event of a catastrophe my two computers will be the first (if only) thing I grab.
Horrible news, but I'm glad to hear that nobody was hurt.
Sucky man, good luck continuing on after this. And the fire is this bad? Wow, I'd better get reading the news...
On a side note, the only thing I probably would grab is a few sentimental things and my 250GB external hard drive. Computers can be replaced however, the data on them is harder to replace.

Yeah.
I feel for you. I was a refugee as a child and my family lost everything. I have almost no childhood pictures. I wish you well.
