My mom works for the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) and she has a police scanner on her desk at work. Every now and then I enjoy going in to listen to it, etc. I had no idea until I googled it but apparently there are lot's of websites that host streams. I wonder... is this legal?
Here's Winnipeg Police/Fire/EMS: http://64.79.218.41:9000/LiveWinnipegPoliceScanner69.m3u
And lot's more... http://www.police-scanner.info/live-police-scanners.htm
Interesting...
I wouldn't figure it's too legal.
...eww, someone is vomiting blood right now!
It's legal to scan, I believe, but not to broadcast. I think that's what I was taught when I was learning frequencies for HAM radio license.. *shrug*

Yeah, you just go out and buy a Radio Scanner from RadioShack (the one I got was about $150, but that was for a really good one.) Then you just go to the frequency that is listed, and listen in. The one I have you can set to "Scan" and any one on any frequency, or inbetween a list of frequencies I pick, will come in on the scanner, so I can just drive down the read and hear Taco Bell, or The Police. I also have prioritys set, so I can hear the Po-po over Taco Bell.
It's cool.
$150 for that? If you had your HAM license you could get a REAL radio for about that. :P

This could actually be very useful if you use it wisely. Shame on those of you who are making fun of this, you don't quite understand the possibilities this has. :p

Oh, I know the possibilities ... I'll be sure to find one for my area before the next big party we have :D!!!!
MAN DOWN!
Very cool... Maybe I could do some vigilante action :D
It's amazing how stuff can be happening right in your own neighborhood and you'd have no idea! I want to get one of those hand-held scanners now. :P
I read this every now and again:

"Male throwing beer bottles"
I swear, it's not me, I would NEVER go to Canada :D!

The one I linked wasn't a scanner. It was a real radio (that you need a license to own legally in Canada!)

Sadly, its illegal to use a scanner in the commission of a crime.
But otherwise its generally legal, or exceptions are made for Amateur radio operators in states where it is illegal(New York comes to mind, and Michigan as well I believe for two examples).

Vigilantism is a program operated by many police systems throughout the US. Try going to a station and asking about it.

I like mine, it goes into the 2-5 GHz range, and I can pick up on phone calls.

Because he had a useful and relevant response to it. There's nothing wrong with resurrecting a thread under those conditions, the issue is when somebody resurrects a thread with "lol!" or something.
Half of these "live feeds" are just like chat rooms and shit if they make public announcements, they aren't the real feed..

Oh no, I agree. I went and listened to it too :P. I just had to post something about the fact that he posted 2 years after the thread died.
