Well, it's actually the same as my old job.
Title: I.T. Security Analyst
For: The Government of Manitoba
Pay: $18.96/hour
Hours: 8:30 - 4:30, Monday - Friday
I start this Thursday, and it's till August 30. It'll be fun again, I love this job! I figured I'd post it here for everybody to see. The kinds of things I do:
- Keep up to date on vulnerabilities and stuff that affect us
- Try out new products (firewalls, IDS, IPS, etc.)
- Monitor IPS and Firewall logs
- Do pen-tests on servers that are being set up Internet-facing (generally Solaris, it's very rare that we let a Windows server face the Internet)
- Do forensic-type work if an employee's computer is compromised or if they get caught doing something wrong
- Make coffee
- Water plants
- Change backup tapes
- Get the mail
- To quote one of the guys I work for, "Other duties as assigned"
It's a small office with 4 full-timers and 2 students (me and Chris, who I've never met but I hear is a cool guy). It'll be fun! :D
Sexy! :D
Sounds fun.

CAD. That's about USD$15.55.
(in 1999, it would have been USD$10.80. Gogo bad American economy lately! :)
Really, the JY has gone from $1.37 to $.80 in under 2 years. BAH!!
We were as low as CAD$1 = USD$.57, now it's CAD$1 = USD$.83. Our dollar is worth 83 cents! :)
Keep up to date on those mailing lists!
Neat, instant messaging with mail clients is fun :p
Today was kinda boring, but overall went well. I met the new guy I'll be working with (Chris) and he seems pretty cool. They showed us some of the new stuff, particularely the VMWare ESX Server, which is pretty cool. They also told us the projects we're going to be working on, which I mostly forget but we'll see what happens.
And I had Subway for lunch. Mm! :)
All the Subways around me are crappy :(, but the bread is good!.
We have at least 5 Subways within walking distance, although I haven't walked in every direction.
You get paid $17 an hour here for being a lifeguard, and its a goverment job. :)
Yeah, but then you get skin cancer and sunburn
And you don't get to sit in front of a computer emailing your friends and posting on forums all day!
That's true!
Speaking of that, my work email is RoBowes@gov.mb.ca. Feel free to email me during the day.
That e-mail address sucks.
What happened to 'rbowes'?
what ever happened to iago@valhallalegends.com? :p
Hi, Rob Owes.
rbowes is taken. By me. And they can't re-activate it because they suck.
iago@valhallalegends.com is my lists address, I don't check it at work. Feel free to email it, but I won't get it right away :P
