Title: Day trading
Post by: CrAz3D on March 24, 2008, 02:14:42 PM
Any of you all do it?

I had to pick a stock for my macro econ class that I think will go up the most in a few weeks ... I know that's not day trading, but yeah.

I picked Bear Stearns last Monday at $4.81, it's now $12.11 w/a day's high of $13.85.  I wish I sank like $1k into it last Monday.  Even by last Friday I would've had like a $500 capital gain.  Otherwise, 300% growth is awesome, I bet it gets around $15 when it tops out.

If I had the money I would. I have tried doing fantasy ones but I just don't get the same excitement since it's not real money.

Yeah.  I'm gonna cash in(?) a couple of CDs and start putting $500 here & there.  See what I can get done.

We were talking about that today in my econ class actually. Some people had picked up the stock when it was down at like $1.50, and now are essentially millionaires due to the huge appreciation.

$2.84, but yeah.  And some people lost SHIT TONS because of the plumet (English dude lost $1b I recall reading)

warz, yeah.  MUCH safer trade, but the gain isn't NEARLY as much.  Only the first two or so days were good (that's day trading, yeah).
BSC, I figure, will top around $15 (unless something else big happens), I mean it IS a friggin' billion dollar company that was going for mere millions.

Well, I should clarify - you wouldn't want to day trade with Visa (I hope that's obvious). It's impossible to chart Visa since it's so new. It's one of those you'd invest a thousand, or so, into and wait several years.

You can make bucks in the first few days of an IPO, but yeah ... wait it out definitely.

Well! I decided I wanted to put some extra money into the stock market. Looking to spend about $150-$200 for now, just researching for a bit.

So I basically DESTROYED my class with the Bear Stearns pick!  hahahahaha

When I picked it I figured $9 tops, unless someone else bid higher than JP's $2/share (hella low bid).  Once JP bid at $10 and the stock hit $13+change I figured I'd be in the top part of the class.

Prof announced the highest capital gains percent today, I had 112% ($4.81 to $10.22 when he checked on friday) and the second place dude had 18% growth.  Prof gave us top two dudes a slick NMSU pen set.  Yay a ball point and fountain pen.  They look sharp, too bad the fountain pen is so impractical.
