I've been looking at HDTVs, and Fry's has some large 720ps on sale for pretty cheap. I was looking at this 42" plasma hd, from Samsung, and it's tempting because of the price and size and the 3 HDMI inputs. I haven't been able to find a good 1080p larger than 30", I'd like a 32", for around this same price.
The TV is I was looking at is here (http://shop1.frys.com/ShopCartServlet?action=remove_item&form_plu=5612051), for $800.
Anyone know anything about HDTVs? I don't know anything. Would this be a bad buy?
Don't bother with 1080i. I <3 my 720p Samsung.
I've read that the 1080p doesn't look all that different when compared to the 720ps, of screen sizes smaller than 50 inches.
Just sit further away from the TV; everything is high definition from back there. :D

Pretty much distance vs screen size. Go with 720p -- odds are you wouldn't be able to take advantage of true 1080p prettyness anyway. And 720p > 1080i. :)
yea, now i just have to convince myself that i really need a new tv. my current one is just a standard horrible box tv whatever, and it's probably like 18" or something. i mean, i dont really NEED one, but it'd be tight for my new place.
Do it. 18" sucks. I've got bigger just lying around my house un-used. You can get some decent TVs on Newegg... check that out?
My girlfriend has a pretty cool TV, it's a samsung 40" LCD 1080p. It's sweet, it's got hdmi inputs, 5 component jacks, two co-axel jacks, some regular red/yellow/white jacks, and a USb port. I like it a lot, Call of Duty 4 on it looks amazing.
When the price ratio between 720p and 1080p monitors is 720:1080 (2:3), then 1080p will be the new price point. Until then, stick with 720 :)
