The GPL is specifically worded to be a software license, not a general intellectual property license.

Jeff Robbins, the guy who wrote the song, explained that he wanted to apply the GPL as if the "stem files" were the source code of the song - and those are open sourced via the GPL license. Kind of a square peg in a round hole.
