Has anyone played this on xbox live, yet? I'm tempted to buy it but I'm not sold on the controls or fun-factor online. I played the demo and it definitely left me wondering how the real game works out online, but I wasn't too interested in much more. I hope it does better than I think it will.
Nah, I only played the demo, but I'm definitely getting it.
My friends and I have been playing it for the last few weeks on system link. Its quite fun, jsut a bitch and a half to memorize all the controls/options. But its a RTS on a console what do you expect?
Damn. Sounds like I'll be passing it up. I wasn't very optimistic about it to begin with, though. I'm a big fan of Halo but that's not enough to go out and buy a console RTS that's gonna bomb like all the others before it. :P
Well, I've been watching torque play this for a few weeks and I finally bought it today.
If you were a fan at all of starcraft then you'll appreciate halo wars. The controls are simple and there's really not much memorization to be done. I just won an hour long 1v1 match - it definitely brought me back to the days of starcraft. You can't back stab, though - that would be too much fun. The sounds feel like they were directly taken from starcraft, so that aspect of the game is great. The graphics look great - it's a complete 3D environment; you can move your camera around. It has 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 settings. There's a lot to this game to make it fun for users that get good at it and play it at a competitive level. It's also simple enough to pick it up for the first time and feel like you just dominated some total noob.
It kind of has two perspectives - UNSC is more like starcraft. You build up a large army and attack. The Covenent is more like Warcraft 3 or something where your army revolves around 1 really strong unit and you just build backup units for him. Both play styles are fun.
I still think it should be a PC game. I would have bought it.
I feel the same way. It should be a PC game, too. It's just as fun on the console, though. I think they did a great job. I have no problem selecting groups of units, all units, a single unit, single type of unit, etc. The game play flows just fine with the console controller.
Consoles were not designed for RTS, even if a game's controls were, the controllers weren't. Mouse/Keyboard ftw. :D
(I don't doubt it's still fun, either way.)
I still get just as pissed off when I lose a game, though.
