I want to try it out, but for obvious reasons (because Google can) it's invite only :\

I do but I have never really used it. I think newby might as well. I can't see a way to invite people like with the gmail beta or anything though.
I have a competitive product called CallWave. It's pretty awesome, here's why:
* If I want to screen a call, I send it to my voicemail. CallWave calls me again (from the originating number) and allows me to hear my voicemail and what the caller is saying. I can then press 1 to join the call.
* All my voicemails are automatically transcribed and sent to me in a text message and email.
* I also get audio recordings sent to my email.
I pay for it, but it's also been totally worth it.

Yeah, I've had GrandCentral for over a year. I don't have the Google Voice thing, though.
Never mind. My account just got upgraded. Sweet. :)
EDIT -- It's just like GrandCentral, but with a Gmail-like interface and text messaging. It's pretty sweet.
As it would turn out, the voice to text does not work. Warrior called me and said,
QuoteHello and welcome to Google Voice. Besides the existing GrandCentral features, we've added: SMS, Voicemail transcript, Conference calling and low priced international calling. We hope you'll like those features and the new inbox. Thank You.
And it came out,
Quotehello up on the pool voice besides the existing grandson the features we about an S M S voicemail transcript conference calling in low price and national calling we hope you'll like the features and then and thank you
I just upgraded to Google Voice from GrandCentral. They gave me a free dollar!
I really dig it. The interface takes after GMail, and the voicemail transcripts are awsome, even though they don't work perfectly!

Invite plskthx?
Only people who've already got a GrandCentral account are invited. I can't invite you.
Aw that's retarded. I thought it was supposed to be like Gmail's old invite system...
I think it is, but users don't have any invites to give out yet.

They hardly work at all. lol.
The default message:

Warrior repeating this message:

I could never actually legitimately trust or use them!
I did see your OP, newby! :P
My results were not nearly that bad. Maybe Warrior just sucks at speaking?
Maybe it hates those with accents. And I forgot I posted that!
