Well, my birthday is September 5th. If you don't want to get a calendar out, that's the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. I was back home this weekend, and someone suggested it, and I really can't get it out of my mind.
You only turn drinking age once, and Vegas is an amazing experience. I say, if the money's available (partying is expensive there), go for it!
If you have the money to blow, I don't see where you could have a better time. I'm probably going to go the summer after I graduate.

I don't know how much a trip to LA costs.... but if it's comparable to like, visiting France/Italy/etc., I'd rather do that. :P
No, because I'll be camping and can't come with!

Oh shoot, yeah, I'd love to visit Europe, but it's only a long weekend, and Las Vegas should be fun. And the prices aren't too ridiculous to get to and stay in Las Vegas as it's the off-season.

same here I am going up to Yosemite
I forgot we had the same bday. Get wasted, make your friends pay for it.

From where? I know from the east coast it isn't too expensive. Probably looking at $200 round trip, maybe less for the time of year you're going
Well, this may have just died a horrible death, but I'll do my best to resuscitate the old plan or make a new one.
Your 21st is probably the last time you will ever be excited about having a birthday...so if you want to go to vegas, you should go!
That said, I don't think I'd want to go there.
Yes, Vegas. That's what I'm planning for mine.

Haha! I'm going! We found some cheap plane tickets out of a town 3 hours from here. And by cheap, I mean $30 one way. Sidoh, think about it.
I can't believe yes is beating "MyndFyre is still a hippo"

Welp, the plane tickets are booked. I'm going to Vegas for my birthday!

Woo! Make sure you waste a lot of money, because people who waste a ton of money there subsidize my trips to conventions and stuff. :)

Wait... but those are the people subsidizing my trip there... seriously, my plane tickets came out to be ~$110.

You're subsidizing your own trip. The less you spend on plane tickets, the more you have to lose in the casinos!

I was thinking more I had to spend on booze, but casinos are okay, too.

It's not really a waste of money if he's enjoying himself. It's not only a rite of passage but it will also be an unparalleled life experience.

Sure, if that's your thing. It's a waste of money in my mind.
But it's all good! The reason plane tickets are so cheap is because of people who go to Vegas to party. And that's fine with me. Like I said, it subsidizes my trips there. :)

Yeah perhaps the happenings that occur in Vegas are not everybody's thing, but the point I'm making is that paying for life experiences that you'll look back on for years to come is not a "waste of money." Each person has a different idea of what experiences count, as we all have different personalities, but for him one of those is Vegas. The point of money is to be able to afford the things that you want to do, the things that make you who you are.
It's all relative, kind of like how MyndFyre thinks I'm a fuckup but probably has no actual reasoning.

First: Who voted no?
Second: Oh em gee... I agree with Trust about something.
I voted 'no' 'cuz I don't like Vegas. It isn't my thing at all, and if you know me well enough that stand probably isn't surprising. :)
At least I voted 'no' after you decided, though, I didn't want it to affect your decision :D

To be fair, I didn't say he was wasting his money by going (I was just there 2 weeks ago :) ), rather, I told him to be sure to waste money. You can fill in what I mean on your own, but I was mostly referring to excessive gambling (or any gambling, really -- gambling = throwing away money).

I like to look at gambling differently. Set a limit before you start, and think of it like this: "I'm paying X$ to have a good time tonight". If you win a decent amount, stop. Otherwise, no loss because you were just paying for a fun night.
Gambling is meh. But getting free drinks? Awesome.

I can have fun for a lot cheaper, and without giving my money to people who don't need/deserve it. :)
I just look at the casinos down the strip and think of how the vast majority of that money wasn't earned, it was just people who wander in and leave all their money. It's a great system (for them)!

That's cool. It's a cheap place to go to/stay, since the hotels like keeping it cheap for gamblers. As I said, that subsidizes the rest of us. :D
Gambling has to be approached from a perspective of having fun, engaging in a game of strategy, pushing your limits of risk, adrenaline rushes when you're putting it all on the line, and the sweet sweet feeling when it pays off. It's like any other game, only it involves money. Consider it a barrier to entry, sort of like running and working out a lot to become a good athlete for other sports. In this case you just need money!! Seriously though, a weekend of it isn't going to hurt anybody as long as he doesn't go betting his life savings.

You make it sound like it's possible to win while gambling -- it really isn't. It's always a downward trend. That's why the companies there can spend billions of dollars building new casinos -- those billions came from somewhere.
In any case, like I said, I think there are better ways to have fun without throwing money away. But whatever. :)
It is possible to win, but it's not likely. I'd say its better to not approach gambling with the mindset that you're going to win money.

I play Texas Hold'em, and I'm up over $1000. If you consider how much money I've spent on gas getting to and from the casino, and food bought there, it's probably somewhere around $0.
