Title: Discovery: Back from the Dead
Post by: Joe on October 31, 2009, 09:37:45 PM
Last night I went digging through my nerdery (room full of computer parts) and remembered that I have a 3G iMac! Well, his factory specs from 2000 are dispicable.

64MB RAM (DDR1 I believe)
10.2GB Maxtor HD
PowerPC 750 @ 400MHz

Wanting to put the beast back into service, I did some googling for instructions on how to replace the hard drive (note, it involved removing the bottom half of the machine), and stuck in a stick of RAM I had laying around.

196MB RAM
80GB Western Digital HD (factory HD from my brother's old Dell)
MacOS 9.1, 10.0.3

I find these specs to be at the very bottom edge of acceptable. Now I'm looking for some DDR1 memory, and possibly a PowerPC G4 or a faster G3.

(Note: Going to Wikipedia crashed Internet Explorer 5 Preview Edition. Go figure.)

Why would you want to buy a PPC?
