Title: National Youth Leadership Forum on Technology
Post by: Sidoh on July 01, 2005, 01:18:52 AM
Here's an update (as seen on http://sidoh.dark-wire.net) :

Well, I've been here for the past 4 days (or something like that). I suppose I should post some sort of an update or something to that affect.

It's okay.

I don't know if I've posted this, but this thing cost over $2,000.

...

So far, it's not come near to matching that price. It seems more like a summer school than anything. We have "reading assignments" that I don't do (reflects how I react to school work!). It annoys me so. There have been some really increadible speakers, though:

Shawn Fanning

Founder, idealist and developer of Napster. Yes, he was here. He spoke. He was very down to earth. I was really impressed by his "non-geekiness." He seemed more like an average person than a geek.

Some Virtual Realitly Guy (Jaron Raneir or something like that)

Weird. Bizarre. Fruit cake. Whatever you want to call him, he was it. He was a fat white dude with dreadlocks. And he was a hippie. Holy shit.

Some iRobot Lady

Yeah--we asked her if she practiced the three laws of robitics. She doesn't. She fails.

I've heard there's 1510 guys here and 90 girls. I believe it too. It's a giant sausage fest. Ugh.

Oh well, there's a few hot girls here, enough to keep from running away.

I know Shawn Fanning.  He's from my town (Hull, MA).  He's a pretty cool guy. When napster was big, and he was racking in the dough with the ads on it he had his own basketball and baseball teams.

His uncle took 70% of the profits from his company.

I'm glad I don't have any family who steal my money. :)

I know, but still just think how much he made with that 30%, all thoes ads....  I remember one day he came to a basketball practice for his team, and gave out free napster shirts.  I wasn't on the team, but I was there because my friend was on the team.

Yup, that's great.

Now think about how much he would have made if his uncle wouldn't have been a greedy bastard and taken 70% of the profits.

Too bad he can't trust his uncle.
