It's not a trick question. You can only weigh one barrel on a scale.

I'll give you a hint.

You can do anything you want with the barrels or their contents before weighing them, but you won't be able to tell which one is heavier just by lifting them.

Yeah you would. 2 * # of balls = a lot, it'd definitely be enough to tell a difference when picking up the barrels.

Crash them together. The one with the 2 ounce would be less inert therefore pushing the lighter ones back.

He's giving answers that would work and fit the expressed criteria of the original post. You're just not happy because it's not the answer you're looking for.
