Looking at getting a ventrillo or teamspeak server.... so which one should I get?
Vent.
Ventrillo is better if you don't mind it not being free. As for me, I'd clearly go with teamspeak.
both
Cost is not an issue... I am simply talking about what you prefer.
I've never used ventrillo, but I hear the quality is a lot better.
Personally, I hate all VoIP.

I wouldn't consider Vent VoIP, but alright.
I prefer vent, personally.
Vent is way better, and only has one 'L' fools...
RABBlT only has one L too. =)
Teamspeak.
I already have servers for each client up and running.
Ventrilo is free Joe. You nub
Not the server.
Ventrilo. Vent is only not free if you are going to by a 1000+ man server, which no one needs.
As for better quality, Ventrilo as well, TS muffels everything horribly.
What will lag you less in a game? TS, however, the difference is only about 20-30ms.
Anyways, that's my reasoning. I vote for Vent.
oh.
It doesn't muffle you if the codec is Speex 25.9 Kbit.

Too bad most hosts for TS don't supply higher then a 16-kbit codec eh?
Good thing my friend Link's servers do. :)
Doesn't matter, it'll still cost a bitch more then Vent.
True Say True Say.
The ventrilo server is free, up to 8 clients :/ which isn't enough... teamspeak is completely free as long as it's not used for business related things.
I personally like the quality of vent over teamspeak.

Amen.
I've done some tests with Vent, TS, and Skype. Skype beat them all by a mile in clarity, speed, and usability. However, it runs into the same problem as Vent with groups, doesn't do them very well (at least with the free version, afaik).

Right, I believe the max groupchat is 5, 4 people, and the host. Skype claims they will be working on support for more in future releases. However, since it's a client hosting the calls, a 50 person chat is unlikely, unless you are on your own 100Mbps or something.
Well, TS is just crap, even if it is free, big no no. :-\
Well thats really convincing, with all your support. ::)

Look through the pages, plenty of reasons.
Have you used the new version of Vent? The new codec fucks up your voice bad. I knoticed this after 2 months of teamspeak on speex :P

The codec is fine.
Blaze my voice is not messed up when I talk on my server and neither is yours. You sound 100% clear and just as you do in real life. Teamspeak just looks ghetto.
