QuoteWhenever I view this webpage:
http://www.metaldev.net/firefox/bugs/render_lag/animation.html
I get a massive amount of lag and CPU usage goes up to 100%, RAM stays the same.
When using IE, the CPU usage stays at a constant 10%-30%.
To prove that this is not due to Firefox's memory allocation problem yet a
rendering problem, I've put up a page without animation, but with more images:
http://www.metaldev.net/firefox/bugs/render_lag/no-animation.html
Also, I'm sure whoever reads this can relate it to bug #242426, yet it's not the
same. They have a very poor description, and the majority of the comments
relates it to a memory allocation problem.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open up Firefox.
2. Go to a page loaded with a large amount of animated images, or just this:
http://www.metaldev.net/firefox/bugs/render_lag/animation.html
3. Enjoy the lag!
Actual Results:
Non-stop 100% CPU usage.
Expected Results:
~10%-30% CPU usage like Internet Explorer.
On other forums, I've posted this same problem. The majority of the users get the
lag, but people using Linux don't. Some other people don't get the lag for
reasons I can't explain.
Post the results if you use Firefox. Also vote for it here (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=311694) if you want it to be fixed. Even if it's not a problem for you, I'm sure at sometime you'll use somebody else's computer and have that same lag that could've been fixed if you voted for it. If you're REALLY lazy and won't make an account, I'll make it for you.
1% CPU usage. Use Linux =p

Blame Windows! :P
Linux:
On animated, it jumped to about 20% but on nonanimated it jumped to 35% then back down to 7%
Windows:
Don't feel like switching just to test.

Same here. The non-animated caused more CPU usage than the animated one did! :p
As I edited above, I'm on 1.0.7.

Hmm.. I'm on Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051006 Firefox/1.4.1
Edit: Similar result as Joe, when not maximized.
Window Manager time!
I'm using Ubuntu-Gnome. I think Ergot is using KDE. Anyhow, mine was maximized, but out of focus.
Yea, with OpenGL window decorations and switching desktops to check the CPU usage ;P
Window Manager won't do anything. It's the rendering that is causing lag. :P
100% CPU when running Firefox through Wine.

Hmm, still no new votes. Just so you people can see, here's (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=182544) the same bug posted 3 years ago. This bug has been around for ages, and won't go away unless you people vote for it. I already gave the great description, I just need you people to vote for it. I'll even create the accounts for you, all you need to do is click vote!
Linux users are apathetic toward Windows users' problems :D (j/k)
omg metal resource:///res/samples/test10.html roxxor
EDIT -
Aparently its not built into the Windows version. http://www.javaop.com/uploads/guest/test10.html.png
I don't have it.
well i DO get the lag. however Process Explorer says it only uses 42% of my CPU. i have a 2.6ghz processor so im good.
5% when loading, 1% after.
Cmon people more votes please! Whether or not this is a problem for you Linux users, I'm sure at some times you use Firefox on Windows whether it's at your house or not. If never want to deal with these problems again, please vote! I can even make the account for you!
Also, Towelie didn't want to do it because he thought he had to fill out the information for the bug. Just to straighten that out, all you have to do is click the "Vote" link, then check 1 box and press okay.
Holy shit, they fixed it! It turned out to be a problem with NVidia GPUs, and they came out with a beta driver to fix it. I'll link to it directly when it's finished uploading because the place I got it from requires you to register.
=o
Alright, it's pretty big, 30MB. Download it here (http://www.metaldev.net/firefox/bugs/render_lag/81.84_winxp2k_32bit_international.exe).
Forget that, I'll take the OFFICIAL update from nVIDIA. Betas have given this computer plenty of problems. :)
i downloaded it and it fixed the problem
