Title: Elementalist
Post by: iago on November 22, 2005, 11:04:59 PM
I'm basing the elementalist on powers from an old cartoon, Earth Fire Wind Water Heart.  Whoever can name the cartoon gets a cookie.

Here are some thoughts:

Move earth (*shrug*)

Spark (Shadowrun)
Fire Bolt (Diablo 2)
Fire Blast (*shrug*)
Flaming weapon (Diablo 2 / D&D)
Fireball (Everything)
Summon wind (T&T)

Poison cloud (*shrug*)

Freeze (*shrug*)
Ice bold (Diablo 2)
Ice blast (Diablo 2)
Ice ball (*shrug*)
Ice sheet (*shrug*)
Ice storm (D&D)
Blizzard (Diablo 2)

Charm person (D&D)
Charm animal (D&D)

And of course, summon elemental spells
Summon [lesser/normal/greater] [earth/fire/wind/water] Elemental

I'd like a bigger list than that, though.  I'll go through my books and see what I can find.  In the meantime, if anybody can post more ideas, go ahead.

sounds awesome :-) Id like to see more earth and wind based things. Maybe you can do something along the lines of an inferno? that would be pretty cool. Meteor shower wouldnt be a bad idea either. Maybe the ability to turn things into animals for a certain amount of time also. Some type of spell that invovles cracks in the earth summoning forth lava could also be nice :-). And for earth spells, some armor-type spell could be cool. For wind we could have something to knock down an opponent or something along the lines.

Sounds good, suggestion noted!  I'll have to get D2's complete list of spells, and stuff.  When I have some time.  Until then, other suggestions are welcome :)

To the rest of you -- GJ!  Captain Planet owned. :)

Your naming all the wow mage spells. GG.

Pyroblast can only be casted once every 30 seconds,
Only one person can be polymorphed at one time, and as soon as it takes damage, it reverts to normal.  Polymorph also increases health/mana regeneration
iceblock makes your frozen in ice, immune to all attacks untill cancelled or 8 seconds
Icesheild makes a sheild around you, absorbing 300 of any type of damage
Evocate is a channeled ability, if you take damage, it stops.

Idea:

Change "Elementalist" to "Druid".

Then we'll combine the Druid and Sorcerer classes from Diablo2, and add others.

That's a good idea!  A Druid is basically a nature (Elemental) mage! :)

Exactly!  I thought of it first class this morning, and it's been driving me crazy all day :)

Plus I can give him animal-type spells and eventually shape-shifting spells (if he wants), which will add more melee.  HA!  Take that all you stupid magical players :)

meh, I dont know about this... I still want to be an elementalist, but id like to hear your plans for spells first

It'll be the same spells I was going to give you anyway, plus more.

I just want more variety.  Just like I'll give Hitmen's necro the 3 groups for diablo 2 (curses, poison, maybe bone, and resurrection, but not summoning elementals).

:-) sounds leet. Think I could have a pet like some groups of people can in WoW? (one that attacks of course, and lvls up :-) )

That's a Hunter.  I suppose that seems pretty valid as a Druid, though I don't think it should have the ability to attack.  I think it should be something like a Hawk/Falcon, something that spies on stuff for you.

sounds cool (I know its a hunter, my friends main character is a hunter, hes always talking about it)

I was thinking of that, and I was planning on calling it an "Animal Companion", after the D&D thing. :)

Alternatively, it could be a "familiar".

I can give you a choice of a couple dozen animals (I have a huge list), and you can pick whatever you want.  The warning is, certain animals (like eagles) are worth a lot of money to people, so you don't want one like that.

I'll post a list of animals shortly.

Ok, here is a list of animals I have stats for.  As always, if you want something that's not on this list, that's fine.  And pick something realistic.  As cool as a "Penguin" is, it's not going to fit into this game.  Also, you want something that's going to be allowed in the city.  PS: If you choose a bear/lion/elephant, you're getting a baby one :)

Polar bear
Cave bear
Booted Eagle
Ostrich
Condor
Lynx
Bobcat
Mountain Lion
Cougar
Puma
Leopard
Panther
Jaguar
Cheetah
Jungle Lion
Plains Lion
Sabre Tooth Tiger
Tiger
Wild Dog
Coyote
Jackel
Fox
Raccoon
Rat
Prairie Dog
Hedge Hog (no, he's not blue and spiky)
Rabbit/Hare
Beaver
Muskrat
Badger
Wolverine
Otter
Skunk (not recommended)
War Horse
Riding Horse
Donkey
Fruit Bat
Vampyre Bat
Black Leaper
Scorpion
Tarantula
Asp
Garden Snake
Deer
Wild Pig
Wild Boar
Buffalo
Sasquatch
Yeti
Mountain Goat
Big Horn Sheep
Dahl Rams
Bull
Black Bear
Brown Bear
Northern Grizzly
Seal
Sea-Lion
Walrus
Penguin
Elephant
Hippopotemus
Rhino
Monkey
Giant Ape
Chimpanzee
Baboon
Silver Bear
Jungle Kodiak
Mountain Brown Bear
Unicorn

Btw, these were all written, along with stats, description, etc., by my friend's dad.  In pen.

would it be possible to have a huge albino ball python such as http://www.ronbillingsleyreptiles.com/ball_pythons/albino_ball_python.jpg
I was thinking of something around 5 ft long. we could descide the size from something like 4"6" + 3d6"

Sure.

What kind of "popular" snake is it similar to?

Is it poisonous/constricting?

Closer to Asp or Garden Snake..

You can be a penguin if you want to.  But penguins don't think, so....

Plus, you'd die of heat stroke in the first couple days.  Pwned!

I had another thought...

You should pick the character class Saurian.  That's lizard-people.  It would suit your animal companion quite well, since you'd both be reptilian-ish.  Plus, they're one of the better classes for mages or warrior-mages. :)

I've thought up some earth spells!!!!!!  I lied.  They are sand spells (as sand compacts quite well to form strong masses, and at the same time is extremely malleable).

Sand Armor: coat the body in a thin layer of sand to dampen blows.  Act is concious effort.

Sand Shield: a sphere-ish of sand that moves around the body blocking blows.  Act is unconcious, happens always.  Prevents damage.  Can be punctured by strong enough blows or circumvented by fast enough attacks.

Sand Hold: (from now on assume "Sand" before everything else) Grab hold of a target and encase them in sand.  Sand can then be used to cover the face (causing suffocation), or can be forced into the victim via nostrils/throat/etc...  Act is concious effort.

Crush: Used after Hold.  Implode victim.  Act is concious effort.  Instant death to target of too low strength/defense (however it'll be broken down).

Barrier: Complete physical barrier of sand encasing caster.  Ethereal eye is created to allow vision.  Act is concious.  Damn near impenetrable shield.  Can be sustained as long as caster has energy or (after no energy) succeeds a saving roll (critical roll?  I don't know what you're calling it).  Can be penetrated by extreme force only.  Surface can be altered to create large spikes, protrusions, etc... for short range (counter)attacks (effective 7m).  Caster's energy set to 0 after use.

Wall: Large wall of sand.  Blocks area damage from one direction over 3 or 4 m.  Act is concious.

Arrows: Arrows created from dense sand and shot through the air at high speed.  Long range.  Act is concious.

Desert: Create MORE sand by crushing rock/dirt deep underground with preexisting sand.  (very handy).  Act is concious, requires little energy, and is fairly fast (a few turns!).

Just to note, I'm assuming here that the sand is reusable at same strength, and cannot be destroyed without a fire technique.  Water techniques would slow the sand, however, but it could be dried up by breaking it apart and moving it around a little.  It is also assumed that the user has complete control of the sand (ie, can make it fly around), and does not require it to touch anything.
