iago told me to add that last line of code in /root/etc/x11/xorg.conf.
I laugh at your pain.
I don't even use my middle mouse button, I wouldn't miss it much. If you're talking about the wheel (not the button), I'd probably cry for you. I'd die without my mouse wheel. All that manual scrolling would be too much to bare. :(
I mean both. :P
You're suppose to put it in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
That would fix the scrolling, but I'm not sure about middle click. You can just enable emulate3button and use left+right as middle :P
I did put it in that file.. it didn't WORK. Duh. :P
Try adding
buttons "7"
Or, search Google. There are lots of people asking that same question.
You should check out this file:
Quote
bash-3.00$ locate README.mouse
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc/README.mouse
There's a guide in tldps HOW-TO section:
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/other-formats/html/3-Button-Mouse-html.tar.gz
This is probably the best reference I've ever seen for the topic:
http://www.inria.fr/koala/colas/mouse-wheel-scroll/
Blasphemy :( README's are the devil :(
Hm, I don't know if this pertains to scrolling as well, but you should turn on Emulate3Buttons (or does that do Right+Left=Middle?).

It does Left + Right = Middle.
Ignoring the huge bump, none of the things have worked. ><
Now that I use linux daily, this has become a hugeeee nuisance. Are there any more suggestions? I have an old-school M$ for CTX mouse.
Edit: Also, I mean mouse scrolling. Middle-Click (aka mousebutton 3) doesn't work either, but that's not a priority.
Fixed :)
Mind posting your solution ?

Replaced broken mouse.
You lose.
Ergot helped me on AIM.
He told me to change "PS/2" to "IMPS/2" in my xorg.conf file. :)
I have the same problem. I'm running a laptop and a 3-button microsoft mouse connected through USB with no scroll. It's hellll. =(
Change "PS/2" to "USB" in your xorg.conf file. ;)
I think I had to change mine to IMPS/2, like you.
So uh, now my middle mouse wheel isn't working on reinstall. It could be the really shitty mouse that has a stingy wheel, but it's just fine on Windows..
