Title: Why the Future Doesn't Need Us
Post by: iago on January 23, 2006, 07:41:21 PM
This is a story about how technology may some day destroy the world.  The last century had threats that could only be achieved by large establishments (ie, countries), such as nuclear, biological, and chemical attacks.  The coming century has new threats, which can be achieved by much smaller organizations.  The threats include nanotechnology, genetics, and robotics.  The threats still have the means to render the world uninhabitable, but are purely technological, they don't require ultra-sophisticated techniques.

It's written by Bill Joy.  He was an absolute genius, a key figure in the making of Unix, Solaris, and Java.  He also wrote vi.

In any case, the article is very long, but it's definitely worth reading fully:

That's very creepy. The "elite" will have control over the masses, sounds kinda like how it always is.

Very, very interesting article, iago.  I'm going to show this to my Physics teacher tomorrow; I think he'll really enjoy it.

In secret, MyndFyre plans to become the level 63 Elite. Hell, MC Oxnyia and send her (your) mininons out to rule the world!

Yeah, it'll kinda be like that. =p

....Where does MyndFyre come into this...at all? And why is he suddenly a dragon?

Probably because Joe has trouble seriously discussing anything like this; he had to tie some aspect of false or hopeless humor into it, so he referenced MyndFyre, who I assume he plays with, and WoW.

Evidently I creep out Gamesnake and Joe confuses me with Onyxia from WoW.  *shrug*

I'm guessing that Onyxia is a dragon, I suppose?

Correct.  A rather large one.  That takes up the entire screen.  And Onyxia is a girl, too.

That has many, Many baby whelps attacking you when your trying to drop her. Its quite hard too.

Anyways back on topic. I personally think something along the lines of the matrix will happen. Where I.E will attack there creators and humans will be "obsolite" But until that day comes just keep on making more patches for wow and PLEASE somebody tell blizzard to get off their asses and make sc2 already :(.

That's essentially what this article is implying...

This is what MyndFyre looks like if Joe were to be correct.

Saw something on the History Channel last night that related to "The Bergembergles" (I can't remember what EXACTLY they were caled).
Anyway, its a group of about 120 of THE MOST POWERFUL people on earth who get together & have an ultra secret tea party.
Conspirists say that they are the ones that cause the gas prices in the 70s & other things of the like.

With the technology of today we could all be pawns in their biological game of deathchess
