Title: The Conservitives win!
Post by: Blaze on January 23, 2006, 10:01:00 PM
Well, Global said so, so I believe them.

Cool.   :)

The results aren't complete, but it seems that it's a Conservative minority:

121   100   50   27
CON LIB PQ  NDP

I don't like CON much, but I guess we'll see how it goes.  I wouldn't like it no matter who won :)

You didn't vote, your opinions don't matter. ;)

Sure I did.  I voted for nobody.  To me, that's a perfectly valid vote.  I hate all parties equally.

(btw: neither did you)

Yes, but I will vote next time, so my opinion counts.

Did you submit a blank ballot?

That would have the exact same affect as not voting, except that it would waste my time.  I don't care THAT much about politics to go out to make a point.

Don't you have the option of filling in a name?

I don't know, this was the first time I've had a chance to vote in an election and I decided not to.

Filling in a name wouldn't make much sense anyway, it seems...

Alot of people in the US that have opinions like you (don't care who wins/don't like any/etc.) vote for people like Mickey Mouse.

Furthermore, I truely beleive that if you don't vote you have no room to complain. Regardless of whether or not you like them.

...vote for people like Mickey Mouse.
How, exactly, is that better than not voting?  Also, we don't directly vote for presidents, we vote for candidates in our local area.  That's why I'm not sure if writing in would work.

It doesn't matter which party got power, I would have hated them.  That's the whole problem with this election, there was no good outcome in my mind (or in most of the educated people I've talked to).  Why would I go out and vote for somebody I hate?  Doesn't that sound stupid to you?  As I said here or maybe on vL, it's exactly like the line on the Simpsons, "Don't blame me, I voted for Kodoss".

I believe that if you don't vote out of ignorance, you have no room to complain.  I believe that if you don't vote out of protest, you do.  I am well aware of the parties and their platforms, and I don't like any of them.

I remember that episode. :P

No one is going to solve anything by arguing about agreeing your/our election and politics suck, it just sucks, so what are we going to do to change that would be a better question to debate.

To change it, I'm going to continue to not vote until it sucks less.  And I hope more and more people will join me instead of thinking it's better to vote for somebody who sucks (like Kodoss) than to protest by not voting.

They talk about voter turnout being extremely low (although I think Canada had a very high one this time).. perhaps part of the problem is that politicians suck?

Ok, the first time I saw it I thought it was a mistake, but you've said it multiple times this thread, so I'll make the correction. Kodos*

It was, technically, a mistake.  I didn't know how to spell it, so I picked the most obvious one :P

They're not going to create a new party just to apeal to those who don't vote.  It probably never will suck less, so you're just going to pick one and vote damn it!  Homer did it, even know they both sucked... that should be enough itself!

Voter turnout is low in Canada, I think its because Chris Rock hasn't done a 'Vote or Die' tour here.

Maybe if one of the parties elected somebody that doesn't suck!

I'm sorry, Bart can't run for office -- he's not a Canadian citizen.

In the US, a huge majority of the people who had those shirts, or did something with it couldn't even vote!! *Sigh* Stupid celeberties.

I actually totally agree with you on this, I feel that a protest of vote would be a lot smarter than picking between 2 evils; we don't have to choose one at all.
