Title: Windows Themes.
Post by: ZeroX on January 31, 2006, 08:49:48 PM
DesktopX is a windows theme program, when used overrides the basic Windows looks, and adds animations and cool objects, like clocks and WMP skins on your desktop.

DesktopX can be downloaded here (http://www.stardock.com/products/desktopx/downloads.asp)

you can download themes here (http://www.wincustomize.com) as well as widgets and objects. (may I suggest Blowout (http://www.wincustomize.com/Skins.aspx?LibID=31&view=1&sortby=4&sortdir=DESC&p=1&advanced=0&searchtxt=Blowout))

WARNING
Taskbars are unavailabe in most themes(maybe all) and DesktopX does not support FireFox shortt cuts, but it is posible to change the target of the shortcut 'internet explorer' to FireFox.

StyleXP (http://www.tgtsoft.com/) was the first Windows theming program to use the native Windows XP theming system to implement custom themes in the native .msstyles format.  Not only that, but the uber-leet MyndFyre had a brief internship at the company when he first started college, and is therefore infintely cooler than DesktopX.

You can also download themes here (http://www.themexp.org/).

No thanks... I like Windows classic for the amount of resources it uses.  I'll use KDE to make things look pretty... :)

StyleXP uses the native Windows theming system and uses a few hundred KB of resources only!  That's because it's uber-leet, like MyndFyre!

Hehe... there are noticable differences between even the default XP theme and classic theme.  I don't mind it being slightly uglier! :)

I use the classic theme since its better for my laptops performance, and because I think it looks better. :)

I like StyleXP and have suggested it to personal friends in the past.

I use (used?) StyleXP and like it as well for its minimal rescource consumption.  I think I tried DesktopX about a year ago and while it may not be true anymore, I remember it being quite a rescource hog and not so stable.
