Again, you'd be really surprised at how many colleges look at well-roundedness. The college application process is much more an analsys of your personality. It certainly heavily concerns academics, but you're going to be spending a great amount of time at this school -- they want to make sure your personality is an acceptable fit for their school. The classes you take can be a powerful representation of what suits your personality.

I contest that there most be non-AP AND non-college prep courses that fulfill the graduation requirements, like.. normal courses. If not, then your school is encouraging too many people to join AP classes, a clear indication that tey are not up to par with the level that should be expected of a college course. That means you're really not getting any favors, chances are you will fail the exam due to lack of preparation, and all your work (if any) will be for naught.
Do you understand why I am telling you that it's not a good idea to take so many AP classes? Or even advanced classes that are easy?
Quote from: Quik on March 30, 2006, 11:10:54 PM
AP classes are designed to be college-level and extremely difficult. Many college students don't even have 6 classes per day. If you can get sufficient grades in all AP classes, your school needs to re-evaluate their difficulty level. I was saying that many schools do not allow you to take more than 4 per year because, at the difficulty level they should be, it would be too much effort.

There are no non-AP/non-CP classes for calculus, statistics, 4th year Spanish, English/History (Senior year there are honors classes! hooray!), biology (1st year college prep/remedial or 2nd year AP), chemistry I am in honors but the AP class = 2nd year, physics is honors I think but requires the completion of calculus, and Art History is AP or college prep. And if there aren't enough kids for the AP Art History, everyone gets put in the college prep one.

Quote from: Sidoh on April 04, 2006, 06:40:48 PMI agree completely. Last year, one of our valedictorians really was an idiot. Seriously, she got through high school with a 4.0, but when she went on to college, she got a wake-up call like no other. She failed her calculus and chemistry classes. She never really understood the material to begin with, so I guess she deserved it. Oh well, but seriously, has anyone ever heard of a valedictorian flunking out in college?
I'm wholly aware of this, but it annoys me that people automatically revere someone who has been awarded valedictorian as a genius. Sure, they've learned the material, but that doesn't necissarily constitute the actual understanding of the material (by no means am I saying this is the case for you; we both know it's not :P). The person who will likely be validictorian in our class is definitely smart, but she's not smart compared to about three of my classmates (Jeff, Myself and Lihao; I'm pretty sure you've met Jeff. Maybe not, though). Jeff is smart, but he doesn't try the least in school. He doesn't even take hard classes. Lihao and I take hard classes and try when it sounds interesting. :P
