Title: Old computer
Post by: Towelie on April 15, 2006, 02:46:29 PM
I am interested in turning my old computer into a linux/unix box. I do not know much about either of these operating systems, how to set them up, nor how to run them. With that in mind, what system would be best for me to start out with? Also, I think I will set up some kind of server on it. First thing is first, I need to find out information about what I am going to do, so I am posting this! :P

This is exactly what I did.

Basically what you want to do is get discs 1 and 2 and install those.

Set the primary boot to your CDROM drive, and put in disc 1.  Off there you'll get the boot startup.  Just go with FULL (or COMPLETE?) install, and enjoy.

PS: WindowMaker and xfce are the best desktops ^^

For my server, I use fluxbox.  I use xfce for my computer (on the rare ocasion I decide to boot Linux).

Well, it's a server.  I really like xfce and WM.  I'd use xfce a bit more, but I'm getting comfortable with WM.  I tried fluxbox, it's kinda ewwy.

I use sidoh.org.  I'm pretty sure it can be ficticious, though.
