"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both."
-- Ben Franklin
If I remember correctly, he was one of the four founders of the United States (he was.. right?). If I'm not being stupid and forgetting something every US cititzen should know, then I find it kind of interesting that we're doing just exactly what one of our founders said not to do.
What's your take on this?
Do what the other liberals do: blame Bush.
Though that is an interesting quote. :)

So you're calling republican leaders across the world "liberal", because they blame Bush for things he has actually done?! You're an american politic sheep, republicans can be for liberty too: That is a damn good quote if you ask me, and very true. I mean WOW, if you think only "liberals" are against Bush, you're a dumbasS:
everyone has the right to be against Bush.

I've heard that before. It'd probably be more impacted with it if I was at all interested in politics. It's a damn good quote, but it has little immediate impact on my interests. ;)
I blame it on government's failure to observe the full scope of consequences their actions arise.

My post was worth a response, just not the one you and Newby are giving.
Newby through the word "liberal" out there, trying to say something highly inaccurate, so I pointed out that everyone deserves liberty and has the right to critisize Bush. THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!

MY ASS. It heavily depends on the politician himself. Bush is a republican. Bush also signed the US Patriot Act, which is one of the most anti-liberty bills ever passed.
If USA was so "liberating" under republicans like you're trying to say, tell me why the drinking age is 21, the highest in the world, above communist Korea's drinking age? Why do we have the only democracy where executions are allowed? We're being fucked by our goverment on many issues, thats why.

It's because your opinions generally suck.

Generally, bigger government == less liberty. That's what we're seeing as the government grows with DHS. Republicans now are not being against bigger government, which is pissing off a lot of the voting base.
First of all, USA PATRIOT Act is an acronym: USA PATRIOT Act (Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001)
Second, fore fathers*
Third, Newby, I can say the same about you as you say about GS. Drinking has fucked with your brain. I will respect nothing you say in this thread until you apologize to GS.

Sixth, Ben Franklin was republican.
Seventh, there's nothing wrong with having an opinion about the president. If you don't respect people's rights to have an opinion in this country, then you don't deserve to have your own.
There weren't any Republicans back then...the democrat party is older than the republican party.
Also, I think the democrat party used to stand for what the republicans stood for pre neo-conservatist era

Democrats and Republicans flopped. The Democrats used to be the conervatives, and Franklin was conservative. I used today's standards to try and avoid confusion.
Didnt they start to turn around or before Franklin though? Cause he had MEGA huge government.

I am not about to apologize to him when he took
my joke, completely mis-interpreted it, and harassed me for it. If he can't figure out a joke, I'm not apologizing.
And FYI, I have not drank a single drop of alcohol since December, and I didn't drink enough to actually fuck myself up. If anything, it motivated me to try harder in school, since I can manage straight B+'s with the same workload I did last year, where last year I had straight B-'s.

That's because the Democrats were the ones advocating Lockean-ism back in the day, which is what modern-day republicans used to do.
