Two days ago, on June 1 (Thursday), I got my degree:
Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours)
Co-operative Option
Graduation was a long, LONG boring ceremony. If I get any good pictures of it, I'll post them here.
-
Congratulations!
-
Yay, get a job and send me some money. 8)
-
I was expecting like... "... I'm a female now"
But congrats on graduating :D
-
Good luck! Now all that's left is 6 more years for a Masters and a Doctorate!
-
You poor old bastard. :D

I know, I meant a better one. :P

Why? His job is an extremely awesome one, especially considering he landed it right out of college.
-
Yeah, I'm quite happy with my job.
-

-
but it obviously doesn't make the amount of money that wires wants you to send to him. duh.
-
Congratulations! Our little iago is finally all grown up.
On a side note, I just registered June 2 for my classes for my freshman year of college.

He became a man yesterday when I said he had grown up; receiving my approval is the final trial to becoming a man.

There are two Universities here:
University of Manitoba (UofM)
University of Winnipeg (UofW)
I went to the UofW for first year, and UofM for the next 4 years.

Bingo.

5 years...

In USA, the university names are abreviated as U, the first name of the state, and then the name of the city, such as:
UW Baraboo
UW Madison
UC LA
etc
and the long forms are University of, the state name, and the city name.
University of Wisconsin, Baraboo
University of Wisconsin, Madison
University of California, Los Angeles

5 years...
Technically, I had 9 academic terms, which is only one term longer than the minimum. That's because I didn't take a full course load, so I took one less than the max (5 courses/term) for 4 terms, which left me with 4 courses to complete in my last term.
Besides the academics, I did 3 terms (12 months) of work experience with the Co-op program. That's why I was there an extra year. Because I fit 12 terms into 5 years, I actually did a more highly compressed degree than most (who do 2 terms/year).

Not here. The Universities are named whatever they happen to be named. University of Winnipeg, University of Manitoba, University of Waterloo, University of BC, etc. I guess Canadians are better at geography :P.

Joe, you forget places like UPenn and PennU, which are 2 different universities.
-
AFAIK... in California there's Private, UC, and the CSU system. Private schools can have w/e name they want. Schools in the UC system (Unversity of California) are named UCXX like UCLA, UCSF, UCD. The CSU (California State University) has a XXSU naming system like SJSU, SFSU.

I've never heard of PennU. Are you sure you don't mean Penn State?
-
University of Pennsylvania = UPenn
Pennsylvania State University = Penn(U)
-
Universities don't have to follow any set naming conventions, its completely up to them (even the public ones). Examples in Kansas:
Kansas State University (KSU)
University of Kansas (KU) , no thats not a typo
Wichita State University (WSU), Wichita is the name of the City
Fort Hays State University (FHSU)
Emporia State University (ESU)
they generally follow the naming convention Joe posted when they are founded by the same group/individual or when start off as branches to another University.
