The article is awesome in itself, and M$ sucks.

Haha, I never really thought of that, but that's a great point.  It's name is terribly misleading.

Why is it that the only problems I ever see are exploits which "could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it"?  Where are the "could allow an attacker to run Solitair" and "could allow an attacker to arbitrarily print" or something?  Come on..

[edit]
I pray to god the EFF does something about this.

Cause anyone that wants to play Solitaire would become an engineer.

Yes let's not find actual problems with Windows but pick on how it names things!! Brilliant.
Idiots.

You clearly didn't read the article.  The WGA's EULA contradicts itself, as well as a lot of other bad things.

"Gain control" leads to running Solitaire, so technically it can mean the same thing.  It really depends on what the attacker wants.

Yes, Microsoft sucks, because they're a company that sells stuff that they don't want people duplicating.  Your logic is about as sound as Joe's.

The only time this program does anything is when you're breaking a license with them already.

Point still stands..incorrect naming. What kind of person sits around and look for trouble in the EULA of something. Sort of pathetic..

The issue isn't that they are trying to stop people from duplicating software, the issue is that they aren't honest about it.  Tricking customers is NOT a good idea.

Your point is meaningless.  Yes, the name sucks, but that's not the entire point.

Or the point at all.  Yes, there are other arguments about its name specifically, but these articles are about how it is install, how it is used, and its self clonflicting statements.

I think Microsoft just likes to stab itself in the foot when it comes to attempting to prevent piracy.

Quote from: a-reliable-source
some high ranking MS employee:  shit, these pirates are really reducing our sales
another noob: I have an idea, lets divert the WinFS team to something pointless that will make people scared to use pirated software
original noob: I'll bet I get a bonus for this!
WinFS team: you fuckers.  just for that we are building backdoors into this pos

(if you can't tell, I'm very disapointed about WinFS not being in Vista :()

Coming from the losers who sit around all day looking for some slight windows oops so that they can get their days giggle? Give me a break. You guys are pathetic.

If they're pirating software are the really "customers"?

Ok, what aren't you understanding about this thread?  Go back, read the first post, read the link, then post again.  Please?

The people who pay for the software also have to use WGA.

Still, there is no difference. Let's take a look.

MS didn't misnamed something as a critical update..and they can execute arbitrary code..big deal..
It's their OS it isn't like they care about your specific PC..excuse them for trying to keep pirated version of Windows away from updates and downloads..

If you don't like it then steer clear of it. Like I said, you guys just look for trouble but anything to get a kick right? rofl.

True enough, but it's never hindered my ability to use my computer.

That's fantastic, but nobody is making that complaint.
