Question:
What should I name my new computer?
Option 1: Vimes
votes: 3
Option 2: Vetinari
votes: 9
Check out the Announcements forum, and you'll see that I'm setting up a new computer.
The computer is going to run VMWare, so it's basically going to be the supervisor-type machine.
The name has to come from Pratchett. My two choices are:
Vimes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vimes) -- A duke, and the leader of the city's watch. One of only two people to be taken off the list of targets for assassins, is a super cool character.
Vetinari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vetinari) -- The patrician, ruler of the city of Ankh Morpork. Very crafty, a trained assassin, also super cool. The only other person to be taken off the list of targets for assassins.
I'll choose whichever has the most votes. If you happen to have something more relevant from Pratchett, let me know and I'll consider it.
In my opinion, Vetinari sounds much, much cooler! Vimes is good too, though. :)
I like Vetinari. :D
I'd name it after me, but Pratchett hasn't got around to writing about me yet, so name it Vetinari.
Vimes, because it remidns me of VMWare.
Vimes, because the story is cooler.
Jesus, Vetinari is kicking ass!
I should make a brief list of Discworld characters and their importance so you guys can help me name the web/db/etc servers :)
I'll probably name the firewall Vimes (captain of the city watch). That makes sense!
I'll post more names later.
You should name one of your things Minsc.. cause he kicks total ass in Baldur's Gate 2.
Or Yoshimo. Yoshimo's a thief, and he's stealthy. And his traps fucking OWN. :D
(SPOILER) But Yoshi's a traitor!
Anyways, I've finally decided to go on a theme: discworld.
(SPOILER) I already knew. Newby told me. :P How I'll miss his lovely trap-setting abilities. :(
Yousux@theme. Go Baldur's Gate/NWN! :D
Vetinari sounds like an animal doctor, but Vimes sounds kinda... strange. Like dimes.
Well, it's been named Vetinari.
Thanks to all who helped!
What are these characters from? Discworld? What is that?
A series of books (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discworld) written by Terry Pratchett (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Pratchett). The best books ever written.

lies!
Lies indeed! The best books ever written are Euclid's Elements.
No, I'm afraid you're all wrong.
Incidentally, Pratchett's style is a lot like Douglas Adams, so if you liked Hitchhiker's Guide, you'll like Discworld books.
It sounds interesting..........
Maybe I will check them out then after I finish the 2 linux books I'm reading.
Also, they're fairly short and easy reads. I'm reading Lovecraft/other early 20th century authors (Poe, Machen, Beirce, etc) and they're fairly slow-going.
There's no TV/internet/etc... in St John, so I think I'll read Discworld :P

(SPOILER) But Yoshi's a traitor!
Haha. I just got to this part in ch4 yesterday. That douchecunt, he made me drop my GOOD bow that I had for my character! I loathe him, though I did jack everything I wanted from him. :P Imoen = garbage, but I need a wizard so eh.
