Title: Running Warcraft III From A Burned Disc?
Post by: rabbit on July 16, 2006, 08:51:50 PM
I can't play the game, it wants me to insert the game disc.  I can, however, install both W3 and TFT from my burned discs (and even a mounted ISO image).  I tried a loader file, but I can't get on Battle.Net with it.  Anyone know how I can boot up my game from the burned/mounted drive without modifying any of the files the game uses for the hash?

IIRC to use a mounted ISO you have to install from the mounted ISO (not a burned copy).  Use sd4hide if it's still giving you problems

I installed from my F: drive (virtual drive mounted with Alcohol 120%).  I'll try sd4hide and see if it works.

[edit]
Didn't work, installing sd4hide now.

[edit2]
Okay, now I'm pissed.  SD4Hide didn't work with F, so I uninstalled and reinstalled on G (virtual drive mounted with DAEMON Tools), and it still gives me the "where the fuck is the CD?" message.

You could just not be lazy and put the cd in..

It's not going to like a burned CD, but if you feel like wasting your time go for it.  I don't remember what protection scheme it uses, but it is  technically legal to use a no-cd if you own the program.  Just install the patch files manually by downloading from blizzards ftp before "installing" the no-cd exe and keep the real exe in a backup folder.  Current patch is 1.20e.

I've played on burned cds online.

I own the game somewhere....

Anyway, I tried a burned disc last night, and it doesn't work.  Give me a link to a no-cd patch?

I use VirtualDrive and it works perfectly.

I found one, years ago, that worked. Too bad I forgot the site. :-\

But yeah, it worked on Battle.net too. If you find out the protection it uses, I don't think it'd be too hard to make the new EXE pass checkrevision.

Sent you a pm with one that I have verified that works.  While on the topic, I hate having to use the no-cd in linux because the anti-cheat client we use in CAL detects it as a hack.  I haven't seen any information on getting wine to recognize an cd for running tft, but maybe I could emulate the drive within wine a la daemon tools, anyone know offhand if that would work?

Maybe, though I'd say use Cedega.  I hear it's better than Wine.

Read my last post for the No CD crack.

EDIT: Second to last post now.

It appears to work, but I still need a TFT key before I can get on Battle.net (I used a public one, which is always in use).

Yea, I'm not sure where my spare is.  I only use the one tft key for myself, the rest of my keys are ROC keys used by bots.
