Title: Dell's Laptop of Doomy Doom
Post by: rabbit on July 17, 2006, 03:40:51 PM
Dell has been conspiring and plotting, trying to figure out how to control population growth, and the've recently displayed their brilliant scheme (http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=32550).

WOW~ Pretty good sized flame, too. Probably 2000+ degrees. Not bad.

In light of the evidence, however, we'd suggest you avoid actually using a laptop on your lap. Ouch.

My guess is it was a defective replacement battery or something of that nature, but I could be wrong.

Do you think there is a possiblity of it happening again?

No, I think the limit for a laptop spontaneously combusting is 1.  :P

I don't know.  They'd have to provide more details.

There are a few possible causes of this that isn't really Dell's fault, though.
  1) Someone bought a generic battery that wasn't intended to work with that specific laptop
  2) Someone plugged the wrong power adaptor into their laptop.  It looks like there were a lot of laptops to become confused with.

No there is a problem with one of the Dell's.  A UPS 747 burned down on the tarmac at an airport the other day because a laptop exploded in the hold.

If it wasn't Dell's fault, why are they researching it (http://www.crn.com/sections/dell/dell.jhtml?articleId=190400211)?

Because Dell is a company which would like to know what caused it in order for it to be fixed if it's their fault? Or possibly issue some sort of warning in the documentation to prevent future instances from happening?

Liability reasons.

I did not, however, expressly state that it wasn't Dell's fault.  I simply listed a few causes for the mishap that would not fall into Dell's lap.

Cmon, now, you could have easily made some sort of pun there... Like:

NOW IT MAKES SENSE TO ME WHY YOU'RE LIBERAL!!!!!

"If global warming isn't our fault, why are we researching it?"

"If it isn't the kid's fault she got shot, why was she standing in front of the gun?"

Those examples suck.  Neither are a large corporation putting exploding laptops of doomy doom out on the market burning down 747's and attempting to assassinate Japanese press people.

And you're using the broad-spectrum negative connotative "liberal".  You are mean.  You hurt my feelings.  I'm going to go cry now. (Fucker).

Good.

And I NEVER said ANYTHING about 747s, although that's just as valid.

"If it isn't the WTC's fault that it got rammed into by two planes, why were they so tall?"

Actually, it is their fault.  The terrorists might have picked the WTC towers if they weren't the biggest things in a few hundred miles.

Stop trying to be a wannabe terrorist.  Dell laptops don't explode above 10,000 feet.  That's why they tell you to wait until you've crossed that altitude.

One exploded on the tarmac, in the cargo hold, though.
