Okay, I'm running Slackware 10.2 and downloaded/installed the WINE binary for it. Then I proceed to run 'winecfg', but I get:

Any ideas?

I know WINE needs some special kernel features in FreeBSD ... Perhaps you need to compile some special features into your Linux kernel?
He installed a binary. He should compile from source! :)

I've already tried compiling from source, but I'll try it again.
Edit: Gummi worms and chocolate-covered gummi bears make the compilation wait worthwhile. :P
Same thing. I suck.
Does that happen for every program, or just some? I know Wine sucks at handling complexer programs.
Try downloading the trial of Cedega, it's better at games and stuff.
It happens with everything. All I'm really trying to do at the moment is run 'winecfg', but no luck.
Yah. Confirmed. The new Wine (binary package) pagefaults when it does anything. Wine 0.9.20.
So you're screwed too, Newby?
/me nods. :(
Any non-commercial alternatives to WINE?
Someone seeding Cedega.

ReactOS (http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html)
I heard somewhere Skywing develops for ReactOS. But I could be mistaken.

Great project, ever been in IRC with these guys? They code at the speed of light.
I think the latest release (0.3.0) introduced networking into the system.

It sounds great and all, but I'd rather stick to Slack. :(
Yep, so now I don't have wine because the whores don't have download links to 0.9.15, the last version that worked for me. Faggots.

WINE works flawlessly for Ergot... maybe we just suck.
It worked flawlessely for me back on 0.9.15.
It doesn't on anything beyond that it appears. :(
Perhaps the 2.4 kernel sucks? :/

That's weird coming out of you....
I was saying (rudely) perhaps it's lacking a feature or something? Shrug.

I've found it lacking of two features (crypto api for wap/wep support and support for my raid) in the last few days. I'm sure there are work-arounds, but there are also work-arounds for getting similar things to work in windows 98, I'm sure...
Wine 0.9.15 was the last version that worked smoothly for me as well. I'm using the 2.6 kernel.
